Norway, one of the "three fingers" of Scandinavia, is just larger than New Mexico, covering 125,181 square miles. It is located in Northern Europe, bordering the North Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, with a coastline stretching 21,925 km. The population of Norway is 4.3 million and growing, predominantly of Nordic (Scandinavian) descent, with a small minority (20,000) of native Sámis (Laplanders) living mostly in the North. Many aspects of business and management in Norway are very similar to those of America, including language and communication, power structures/politics, work ethics, food and eating habits, dress, and religious beliefs. General facts about Norway include an age structure of 0-14 years=19% (390,344 female; 444,570 male), 15-64 years=65% (1,375,493 female; 1,424,027 male), 65 years and over=16% (408,675 female; 287,842 male); a birth rate of 12.86 births/1,000 population; a death rate of 10.35 deaths/1,000 population; a net migration rate of 1.15 migrants/1,000 population; an infant mortality rate of 6.1 deaths/1,000 live births; and a life expectancy at birth of Total Population: 77.61 years, Male: 74.26 years, Female: 81.15 years. The official language of Norway has two forms. Bokmål, or "book language," is used in most written works and is spoken by more than 80 percent of the people, especially those living in urban areas. English is taught in schools beginning at age 11 and is widely spoken as a second language. Communication is very similar to that of the United States, with technology being more advanced, and things like the Internet and cellular communication being very widely used, with an average of 2 cell phones per person in Norway. The power structure of Norway is probably one of the few areas that are quite different from that of most other free countries. Norway is a constitutional monarchy, with the king having limited authority, except as head of the military and as a symbol of continuity and stability. Executive power is vested in the prime minister, who presides over the dominant party in the country's parliament (Storting). The 165 members of parliament are elected every four years. The Storting has an Upper Chamber (Lagting) and a Lower Chamber (Odelsting). The Labor, Center, and Conservative parties are the largest in parliament, but no party has a majority. All citizens may vote at age 18. Norway also has 19 provinces (fylker). Norway enjoys a strong economy and has one of the highest standards of living in the world.
A man carrying two revolvers and two 9mm semi-automatic handguns calmly strode into the Dunblane Primary School. Two people quickly spotted the firearms and tried to tackle the man; he shot them and left them wounded as he continued his journey down the hall of the school. Finally, the man reached his destination: the gym, where a class a kindergartners were having P.E. In the gym, he pulled out the guns and started picking off the five-year-olds one by one. The room was splattered with blood as young children broke like porcelain dolls under the power of the gun. The blood continued to flow, but the intruder did not stop; he took careful aim to make sure he didn't miss. The final insult came when he shot the teacher who was shielding kids with her body. Once he killed her, he killed the kids she was protecting. When he finished in the gym , he turned around walked out, shot at a class as he walked down the hall and walked out into the courtyard. In the courtyard, the killer ended the ordeal by taking his own life (Pederson).
The Spaniard civilization can date all the way back to the Stone Age. Because of its agricultural wealth, Spain was acknowledged to have people occupy its land approximately 32,000 years ago. In A.D. 409, Spain was overrun by German invaders, but they were later forced out of the country and into Africa by a group called the Visigoths. The Visigoths, however, would soon lose control over Spain from a battle lost by the Byzantine Empire in 507. By 585, they would regain control over Spain and lived side by side under two separate laws between themselves and the Spaniards. In 711, North African Moors sailed across the straits, swept into Andalusia, and within a few years, pushed the Visigoths up the peninsula to the Cantabrian Mountains.
Sweden is a very old country in North-Europe the first people lived there after the last Ice Age 11,000 around b.c. However, the people did not had houses and traveled around to other Scandinavian countries. Therefore, there were no government. Around the Vendel Period (550-790) the people settled down and the Viking period started. The cities became wealthy because of their trading and war politics. At the beginning of the 11th century, the Kingdom was a loose association of independent landscapes and small countries. Through
“I’m going to die. I’m going to die…,” I repeatedly said under my breath. Then, I swore a million times as the blue Mustang pulled up.
You think about every one it could be then you notice the cop car parked down the road so you hit the floor and crawl till you get to the stairs. Once you get to them you sneak your way up stairs to your room where you have a gun safe. You get your gun and sit by the widow waiting for the cops to shoot at you. But instead you hear them kick in your door. You hear a dog barking and you get out onto your roof and hind well there searching the house for you. You try to stay outside till they leave but one of the cops outside sees you and yells to the other cops. You take off and jump from your roof and when you hit the ground you start running to the neighbors house. But you hear a gunshot and start hoping that nothing happens. Something hard hits you in the leg and takes you off your feet you try to get back up and run but you can feel you legg. You hear the cops getting close so you try and crawl off to the
Many of them have moved from the societies their ancestors created to be able to speak their language and keep their culture. Moving from these areas they are better able to assimilate themselves while still keeping their culture with them (Scandinavian U.S. History). They are marrying people from cultures other than their own and some have even lost touch with their own roots. Some of the ways that Scandinavians have influenced American culture is by the some of the food they make from their culture, religion, holiday traditions, and some others (Scandinavian U.S. History). One of the major holidays that they celebrate in America is the twenty days of Christmas. This starts on December 13 and on Christmas Eve they celebrate with very traditional food like dried cod, lutefisk, and rice porridge (Scandinavian U.S. History). One other celebration occurs on May 17th. There are parades held and festivities to celebrate the signing of the Norwegian Constitution in 1814 (Scandinavian U.S. History). This celebration includes foods like the lefse, a flatbread made from potatoes and rolled out really thing, and of course the specially made cod(Scandinavian U.S.
The Spanish people are essentially a mixture of the indigenous peoples of the Iberian Peninsula with the successive peoples who conquered the peninsula and occupied it for extended periods. These added ethnologic elements include the Romans, a Mediterranean people, and the Suevi, Vandals, and Visigoths (see GOTHS), Teutonic peoples. Semitic elements are also present. Several ethnic groups in Spain have kept a separate identity, culturally and linguistically. These include the Basques (Euskal-dun), who number about 2.5 million and live chiefly around the Bay of Biscay; the Galicians, numbering about 2.5 million, who live in northwestern Spain; and the nomadic Spanish Gypsies (Gitanos; see GYPSIES).
The Norse had a structure to their society. They had kings and priests, Jarls and lords, freemen and slaves (thralls). Before the formal organization of the Scandinavian countries, the Norse were considered a single people that consisted of family clans. Nordic society was set and organized with a deliberate means to the ends.
Sweden has a population of about 8, 857, 000 people, and with only 1,625,000 people in its largest city. Another one of Sweden's most populated cities, Göteborg, has about 783,000 inhabitants, and another major city of Sweden is Malmö, 515,000 people. Sweden's population is just right around the area of New Jersey's. With one of the highest life expectancies the world has, the fertility level of 1.5 children per woman was the lowest for Sweden ever recorded, yet still above average in Europe. The main language spoken in Sweden is Swedish. Swedish is a Germanic language, which has historically been the mother tongue of nearly the entire population, and almost 90 % of native Swedes belong to the Church of Sweden. The Church of Sweden has been the State church for nearly 500 years. The ethnic diversity of the area differs from the surrounding territories. The predominate religion of the area are the Christian Protestants. Sweden has a higher immigration than emigration. But most of the immigrants are Swedish people returning home. Today roughly 18 % of Swedish residents are foreign -- born or have at least one non-native parent. Sweden has two minority groups of native inhabitants: the Finnish-speaking people of the northeast, along the Finnish border (about 30,000) and the Sami population of about 17,000. The Sami are scattered throughout the northern Swedish interior and in nearby no...
“It must be peace without victory”, that is what I heard President Woodrow Wilson say on the radio this morning. It’s 1918, the war has ended, and so much has already change, even here in my little town in Louisiana. I am happy so many things are changing. It means when I grow up, I can vote and work. Women’s rights, Prohibition, and the economy boom is really changing America.
So I was so scared that I might die doing this, but I still did it, but then these white people came up behind
Unfortunately, I wasn’t fast enough to see what he looked like. Being the impatient person I am, I walked up to the entrance of the restaurant and could see a small envelope on the floor. I opened it and found a small note, which said “Tag you’re it.” My happiness was cut short to the sound of gun shot. As I ducked behind a chair, there were already 2 holes in a brick wall. “Crap, he’s shooting at me. Where is he firing from,” I asked myself. He must have been using a silencer, as I couldn’t hear where it came from. I completely fell for his trap. He knew I was following him. “I’m such an idiot. What do I do now?” I pulled my USP-9 out of my gun holster and immediately ran inside the restaurant, into the kitchen, as a bunch of Italians shouted at me. I darted my way out, which led me to a dark alleyway. Fearing for my life, I ran down the alleyway, my adrenaline pumping. As I came close to the end of the alley, I heard something “whiz” near my ear. A bullet nearly just killed me. Immediately, I ducked behind a big, steel bin. I pulled out my pistol and slowly aimed at him while still under cover. I fired a shot. A loud “BANG” sound shot out as the bullets exited the barrel of the gun. Direct hit on the head. Still gasping for air, I slowly walked to the body. It was a Caucasian man, about 6’1 with, of course, a bullet through the eye socket. 10 minutes later, I get a phone call. “Do you know what you’ve just done!? We will kill you.” As the call ended, I started laughing hysterically. I was so close to death, and yet, I never felt more alive than this in my entire life. This is just what I needed, and I already couldn't wait for the next person to kill me. Only, next time, it would be by my
...ason for this disparity in the statically data. Norway and United states are close when it comes to leadership traits, beliefs and the manner in which they approach higher educational means and through religious methods. Often people look at statistical data and misinterpret the meaning. United States and Norway are very close in the leadership department and statistical data is not exaggerated.
