Social Psychology is the study of how people think about influence relate to on another, social is seeking or enjoying the companionship of other. In the study of Social Psychology people does not have to be present to have an impression on how someone will act, just a thought of a person influences a situation i.e. if someone steals they may think what if someone catches them or sees them on camera and may put down the item. If there is no security at the front of the store the person is thinking about the “what if” if someone is watching a camera at the back what if a cop is outside, etc. Social psychologist examines how social factors affect people, the reason for this field of study is to understand the thoughts, feelings, and behavior …show more content…

Social psychologist focuses more on an individual rather than focusing on disorders, or focus on the group level as sociology does. Sociology focuses on how a group of people interact with each other. Both fields use a lot of the same publish works to study their field of work but overall there is a big difference. Sociology and social Psychologist study individuals and their behaviors, Sociology focuses on the group and social psychology on how the individual acts. Kurt Lewin is considered the founder of social psychology, he was one of the first psychologist recognized as having and hypothesis and using experiments to test them. Muzafer Sherif is recognized as a founder of social psychology as well, he studied conformity in 1936 Sherif place subjects in a dark room and told them to watch a pinpoint of light and report how far it moved. Sherif wanted to see if people were influenced by other people's opinions. This experiment is known as the autokinetic effect, the autokinetic effect is an illusion because the light never moves but people say the light does move.
