The sound of humming is the first thing Alex heard when he woke up. He was on an oddly comfortable haystack next to a stone bridge. The sun was shining and he was stuck in the middle of nowhere. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes looked for the source of the lively tune. It was a jazzy song, not one that Alexander had ever heard. “Thomas Jefferson’s coming home.” Alex’s head snapped up. A tall man wearing tattered, yet stylish, clothing was walking down the cobblestone road. He’s actually hot. Alex blinked at that startling revelation. The man looked in Alex’s direction and winked. “Thomas Jefferson.” The man peered at him. “Has anyone ever told you your eyes are comparable to the darkness of the ocean? Though, the ocean could never compare to the mystery shrouded in you.” Alex blushed. “How poetic. You write?” Thomas shrugged. “Not really. I’ve got a million of those.” Alex laughed. “Too bad I can’t hear them all, I’ve got to find a way home.” “Lost?” Thomas questioned, his interest piqued. “I’d be glad to help a damsel in distress. Where are you headed?” Alex thought about how worried Washington would be. “It’s imperative that I get to Paris as quickly as possible. Would you mind showing me the way?” “I’ll do you one better. I’ll get you a ride.” Jefferson assured. “Really?” Alex asked skeptically. “How do you plan on doing that? I don’t exactly have any money on me.” “Who said anything about money?” Jefferson offered Alex his hand and helped him off the haystack. He led Alex to a small shack down the road. “Now all we have to do is wait.” And wait they did. For ten minutes nothing happened.
