The first assessment that to be considered for mental health issues is the Beck Depression Inventory II. The revised version of the original BDI consists of 21 questions that access the symptoms and cognitive feelings on a 4-point scale, which is given by the clinician or in written form (Back and Steer, 1993). The BDI II should not take more than 15 minutes and depending on the total score will result in a mild, moderate or severe depression evaluation of the test taker (Back and Steer, 1993). The BDI II is one of the founding assessment tools to monitor the level of depression in individuals. This form of assessment consists of two different approaches. One way is given by the clinician and the other is taken by the individual (Warren, 1994). The RHRSD consists of 17-21 questions, lasting 20 minutes and precise evaluate score scores greater than 20 is considered depressive (Warren, 1994). The assessment asks questions related to anxiety and insomnia, two of which are possible dual diagnosis’s to evaluate in the case of Miguel. (Warren, 1994). A limitation of the assessment tool does not allow for a careful examination of cognitive elements when determining the various levels of depression (Warren, 1994). Furthermore, there is scholarly discussions regarding the assessment accuracy level (Trajković, Starčević, Latas, Leštarević, Ille, Bukumirić & Marinković, 2011). However, Trajković et al., (2011) concluded that reliability of the exam proved itself to be one of the few accurate depression assessment tool to be used by clinicians. Whereas, there is more research needed in the area of race, ethnicity and gender to determine if the RHRSD produces inaccurate results.
