Everyone has gone through this-- asleep, caught in the middle of a vivid dream that seems so real you think you’ve actually experienced it. Maybe it was meeting and spending time with your favorite celebrity, or a nightmare that jolted you awake, heart pounding. Scientists believe that dreams are a window into our unconscious. So what are dreams? Dreams are imaginary images, thoughts, sounds, and voices that are all put into a scenario when we sleep. This can include anything you could imagine, as there’s no limits to what the mind can experience during a dream. Dreams are stories and images that our minds create while we are asleep. They can be entertaining, fun, disturbing, bizarre, and realistic. A very common question is: why do we dream? Researchers have many different explanations such as to interpret random signals from the brain and body during sleep and to process information received during the day. What goes through our mind before we go to sleep may affect what we dream about. However, we may not remember our dreams. Scientists believe that dreams that come true may actually be a suggestion or guide for you to follow, making it seem as if the dream is coming true. Another theory is that you edit your dream to match the conclusion. Because dreams are so easily forgotten, your memory of the dream may not be accurate.
