Our nation. Our great nation. Our great, but imperfect nation. The ideals our nation holds so close to its heart. Have we forgotten them? Have we forgotten what our soldiers were fighting for? Have we forgotten the path our forefathers paved out of love for those who hadn’t even swallowed their first breaths on earth. Have we become so lost in the dredges of life, in our problems and opinions, that the path isn’t even in sight anymore? Lost...lost is a strange word. Lost is troubled, but not hopeless. Lost is out of sight, but not gone. Lost can be found. New paths can be made and maybe, the old path can come back into sight. Or maybe it doesn’t have to. We stand tall and steady, like Lady Liberty who holds her torch with pride. Similar to the corroded metal that changed the statue from copper to green, we are not the same as before. We’ve evolved and time has manipulated us, but we are still here. We will not be moved or shaken. Our base may as well be rooted ten feet deep into the dirt that our ancestors were buried in. The Statue of Liberty, a gift from france, uniting us under the name of freedom. A title that we grasped and never let go of. We live thankful every day for this title. The Statue of Liberty stood tall as immigrants floated into her waters. She welcomed them as they walked on her sand. She loved them as they lived lives under her torch. She wears her crown proudly, whose seven spikes represent the 7 continents. A gift from another country, representing freedom for all, love of all, and the unity of the entire earth. Yes, we have strayed from that path. Our land used to be a place where anyone, no matter their backstory, could work hard and achieve what they set out to. It was a place where dreams and work ethic were more important than riches. It
