David Blaine has completed some of the most outrageous and stunning stunts, such as being buried alive for a week with only water and freezing himself in a block of ice for three days. He is one of the world’s greatest known magicians of his time. On April 30th, 2008 David Blaine set the world record for holding his breath for seventeen minutes and four seconds. The road to the world record was “the most amazing journey of his life” according to himself. When Blaine was a teenager, he could already hold his breath as-long-as Houdini’s personal record. He uses pathos throughout his talk to appeal to the emotions of the audience by the way he dresses, his casual demeanor and what he says about the events leading up to his world record performance.
Moving into the speech, pathos, ethos, and logos were mentioned multiple times. Pathos appeal to the emotions which help the reader connect to the speaker. For instance, the use of “Us” and “America will rise” various times allows the audience to connect more to the subject. Also, Booker mentions the statement “Love knows that every American has worth and value” which conveys that the audience is important and that the people of America are in this together. Ethos are appeals to credibility or
Generally, when someone is said to be the “best” at something, it is an arbitrary title given to someone by another person based purely of of their own narrow viewpoint. This it true when talking about the best actor, however, there may be a way to determine the best actor on a variety of criteria. Though some may think otherwise, Danny DeVito is a phenomenal actor, who may be considered one of the best in the industry, from his range as an actor, to the sheer number of awards he has won or been nominated for, or even his projects outside of film, he seems to have it all compared to all other actors.
In the “180” movie Ray Comfort outstandingly used rhetorical appeal throughout his argument in a thorough way to further grasp his audience’s attention. He used pathos, ethos, and logos during the course of his dispute of abortion and the Holocaust. Comfort uses pathos more frequently than the other two appeals, to plea to the audience’s heart strings. An example of when pathos was used was when

While analyzing the speech, I notice how he isn’t shaky from nervousness or his voice’s pitch getting higher which makes him confident, is already prepared of what he wants to talk about, and therefore does not cause any distractions towards the audience. His voice tone is at his natural state as I assume as it calm, not quick to rush words out, and engages the audience by not bringing
... audience, it made it more complex to have pathos effect all the audiences. To sum up, the author use of pathos did get the audience to be interested in the topic by giving them a solution to help yet, most would not like the topic of depressed doctor in need of aid.
In 1976 Steve Jobs Co-founded the apple Computer Inc. Steve Jobs had an idea that would create a chain of brilliant ideas behind it. What Jobs did was step out of the normal and tested the limits of what could be done. Like Steve Jobs, music is constantly changing and developing new beats and styles. At the beginning of Lady’s Gaga’s career, many people questioned her style and music. Soon after, she was accepted and rose to the top of the charts. You may ask what this has to do with art but it’s very simple. Innovation takes time and patients. Like many music artist and inventers, painter and sculptors take risks with their ideas. According to “Other Criteria” Damien Hirst is one of the most influential artists of his generation. What Damien Hirst has done is very similar to what many inventers and new music artist are doing. That is why I would like to talk to you about the life of Damien, his innovations and art he has created.
She mentions how one’s ACE score directly affects their life. Information via pathos is not in statistics, but rather just words and how it is brought across the audience. Her word choice is strong throughout her talk, giving a question to the audience in the beginning of her talk asking, “How many of you know/knew someone has/had a mental illness when growing up.” This appeal to emotion grabs the audience’s attention as Harris attempts to relate her talk to everyone there. Harris’s logos are directly related to her pathos as her logos backs up her pathos. Without logos, Harris’s pathos would have been nothing as no supportive information would be
Robert Matthew Van Winkle A.K.A Vanilla Ice was born on October 31st 1967 (age 47). Vanilla ice is an American rapper, actor and television host. Ice's 1990 single "Ice Ice Baby" was the first hip hop single to top the charts. Although Vanilla Ice was successful, he later regretted his business arrangements with SBK, which had paid him to adopt a more commercial appearance to appeal to a mass audience and biographical information without his knowledge. After
It is clear that he uses pathos as his most potent tool for persuasion. Be it a way to depict gruesome imagery, a way to supplement his call to action, or as an enhancement for both his ethos and logos arguments, his strategic use of pathos is what drove the letter’s meaning to the hearts of
Heath Ledger was an Australian actor who died due to a dangerous combination of drugs. Ledger was found in his apartment in New York on January 22, 2008, by his housekeeper and masseuse. Emergency medical services arrived on the scene at 3:33 pm, and after being unable to revive Ledger, they pronounced the actor dead at 3:36 pm. False reports immediately began surfacing, declaring that Ledger was found in Mary-Kate Olsen's apartment, who he had been casually dating in the months leading up to his death. In reality, Olsen was called upon finding Ledger unconscious not only for help, but also because of her relationship with Ledger. His cause of death was an overdose, and the coroner ruled that it was an accident ("Heath Ledger"). Ledger was a famous actor with countless fans and his death devastated many. Mr. Paranormal Madness, better known as Mr. Pm, is a shadowy figure that is barely discernible, with 2 red glowing eyes and a purplish aura as your only giveaways he is there. If you make direct eye contact with him, he will induce a state of delirium within the victim’s mind. Many paranormal researchers have debated on if Mr. Pm was slenderman, or the other way around, but many others have tried to debunk the theory. It can be particularly hard to spot Mr. Pm, as he can blend in with his surroundings and render camouflage like that of a chameleon, but 50x faster.
He was respected as the greatest showman of all time. He would practice more daring stunts day by day. Every day, he would wake up in the morning, fill his bath with cold water, and hold his breath as long as he could. He did this so he could perform more daring water-related stunts. He reached a record of three minutes under water. (apl.org). Not only was he the master of showmanship, but he was also the master of self-promotion. He would acquire massive crowds by performing stunts like freeing himself from a straight jacket while dangling from his feel attached to a rope several stories high. (Magic of Houdini). People loved witnessing him perform in their hometowns. However, escaping a straight jacket suspended from a rope was far from his most well known act. The stunt he became most well-known for was the Chinese Water Torture Cell. In this act, Houdini was placed into a container of water, upside down, handcuffed, and the container was locked above him. The assistants on the stage would place him underwater and then cover the cell with curtains. The crowd would anxiously wait, as Houdini had his life on the line. Minutes of nail-biting and deafening silence among the crowd ensued until finally the curtains rolled back, revealing Houdini himself, standing outside of the cell completely unscathed. This wowed crowds unlike any showman had ever before. This act became a staple in all of his
