Daisy and Edmond are different now because Edmond is scared because the stuff he has seen in the war people dying and more. He can barely talk to her, there relationship is different now. They don't talk much, but it is getting better. They are talking more, but not a lot, It will probably take a long time to fix their relationship. The Great Gatsby is centered around three main characters. F. Scott Fitzgerald examines the characters of Gatsby, Nick, and Daisy in The Great Gatsby. Each of these characters is different in many ways. Daisy is in an unhappy marriage, but is content until she meets Gatsby again. Gatsby and Nick each love Daisy in different ways and want to see her happy. However, despite their best efforts, the three characters all part ways, and there is no happy ending for them.
When Nick visits Daisy she tells him the story of how her daughter was born, “It’ll show you how I’ve gotten to feel about––things. Well, she was less than an hour old and Tom was God knows where. I woke up out of the ether with an utterly abandoned feeling.” By leaving Daisy behind at a time when she most needs him, Tom loses his value of companionship with Daisy. He no longer fits the three criteria that Daisy feels she needs in a man. Daisy knows that Tom no longer loves her and is having an affair with another woman, but despite all of this, Daisy has no intention of leaving him (20). This is because Tom, despite no longer fulfilling her emotionally, is still better for her financially and socially than if she left him to live alone. If Daisy wants to stay in her class, she has no option other than to stay with Tom. When Daisy finally sees Gatsby again, she suddenly has another option besides staying with Tom. Daisy knows that Gatsby has true feelings of love towards her, but leaving Tom would prove to be risky as it could tarnish her reputation and by extension her social stability. She desperately wanted a voice and independence. Edna’s realization of her situation occurred progressively. It was a journey in which she slowly discovered what she was lacking emotionally. Edna’s first major disappointment in the novel was after her husband, Leonce Pontellier, lashed out at her and criticized her as a mother after she insisted her child was not sick. This sparked a realization in Edna that made here realize she was unhappy with her marriage. This was a triggering event in her self discovery. This event sparked a change in her behavior. She began disobeying her husband and she began interacting inappropriately with for a married woman. Edna increasingly flirted with Robert LeBrun and almost instantly became attracted to him. These feelings only grew with each interaction. Moreover, when it was revealed to Edna that Robert would be leaving for Mexico she was deeply hurt not only because he didn’t tell her, but she was also losing his company. Although Edna’s and Robert’s relationship may have only appeared as friendship to others, they both secretly desired a romantic relationship. Daisy is unthinking because when she meets Nick for the first time after the war; the first thing she says is “I’m p-paralyzed with happiness” (8) which is really unbecoming for a social butterfly like her. Moreover, she stutters while saying the word “paralyzed” which could imply that she says this without really thinking, because this is not the typical greeting one would say to their cousin, even after a long time. It is unfortunate that the foundation of the deep passion is set on only one summer hype from which Gatsby has based his life goals (Fitzgerald, n.a). Langston Hughes in his poem A Dream Deferred explores what happens when a dream is put off for a long time; Gatsby’s Love for Daisy. It is curious to explore the fact that Gatsby expects Daisy to forego her life for him after being apart for five years. The chapter closes with Nick pondering over the course of Gatsby’s dream of being with Daisy and how that cannot be recreated from the past (Fitzgerald, n.a).

In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby was born into a life of poverty and as he grew up he became more aware of the possibility of a better life. He created fantasies that he was too good for his modest life and that his parents weren’t his own. When he met Daisy, a pretty upper class girl, his life revolved around her and he became obsessed with her carefree lifestyle. Gatsby’s desire to become good enough for Daisy and her parents is what motivates him to become a wealthy, immoral person who is perceived as being sophisticated.
The dinner party scene also introduces the theme of societal expectation by contrasting two very different characters: Daisy Buchanan and Jordan Baker. Daisy is portrayed as an almost angelic or fairy-like figure, first seen lounging on the couch: “buoyed up as though upon an anchored balloon” (12). One could infer that the phrase ‘anchored balloon’ symbolizes the constraints and expectations placed upon women during the 1920’s. The Great Gatsby, is a classic American novel about an obsessed man named Jay Gatsby who will do anything to be reunited with the love of his life, Daisy Buchanan. The book is told through the point of view of Nick Caraway, Daisy's cousin once removed, who rented a little cottage in West Egg, Long Island across the bay from Daisy's home. Nick was Jay Gatsby's neighbor. Tom Buchanan is Daisy's abusive, rich husband and their friend, Jordan Baker, has caught the eye of Nick and Nick is rather smitten by her. Gatsby himself is a very ostentatious man and carries a rather mysterious aura about himself which leads to the question: Is Gatsby's fortune a house of cards built to win the love of his life or has Daisy entranced him enough to give him the motivation to be so successful? While from a distance Jay Gatsby appears to be a well-educated man of integrity, in reality he is a corrupt, naive fool.
Although Daisy appears flawless, she is capable of getting upset like any other person. Nick is in the middle of having a conversation with Daisy and one moment she is perfectly normal, while seconds later she storms out of the room in a fit of fury. Fitzgerald writes, “She was only extemporizing but a stirring warmth flowed from her as if her heart was trying to come out to you concealed in one of those breathless, thrilling words. Then suddenly she threw her napkin on the table and excused herself and went into the house. (Page 11)” Daisy does not want anyone to be aware of her anger, in fear that it will take away from her reputation. At that moment during her conversation with Nick, she has a burst of anger and is unable to conceal it. A moment before she becomes angry, Daisy appears perfectly normal and calm. Daisy calculates all of her actions because she needs to appear effortless, however, she is not. Daisy has problems of her own, including a temper, that she usually hides well, but in occasional moments of weakness, her true self is seen. Daisy is a character that seems calm and collective, but she is actually a normal person with a minor
