While looking at different curriculums, there is a big importance of looking at the different methods of teaching students to grow faith development. To look at the effectiveness of the different curriculums when coming to teaching the grades from third through fifth grade I reviewed Concordia Publishing House’s “Growing in Christ- Middle Grades” compared to Faith Inkubator’s, “My Bible.” Looking at both of the curriculums, I used how they used the family, technology, and different ways of learning to show which was more effective in teaching students. I believe that Faith Inkubator’s “My Bible” is the more effective curriculum.
When looking at both curriculums they both have an array of strengths within them. Faith Inkubator’s “My Bible” uses visually appealing aspects through their technology. Leaders have a power point prepared for them to teach the lessons on the projector for all the students to see and their parents. Through these power points we see excitement from the kids, which utilizes the use of different learning styles through the use of music and through the “Fink Quizzes”, students are able to get into the quizzes through the curriculum’s use of funny little blurb’s from the characters on the side of the screen. These characters on the side of the power point screen also say facts about the topic that is being addressed. Through the power points students are shown the story of the Bible that they highlight Families are encouraged to be apart of the “My Bible” class with their student to encourage the family aspect of the child’s learning. So, the use of power point lessons, which also include music and characters helps the students learn and gives the curriculum and edge and a factor that keeps the students engaged in learning. Which helps students be able to have fun while learning which makes the students continue to want to go home and study their Bibles. Even through knowing, that the Bible is theirs encourages the student to take ownership of the material in the Bible, which will help them through life. Lastly, through the graphics technology, and the music, and the use of the quizzes it compasses the ideas of different styles of learning and keeps students with a confidence in what they are learning so that they can leave and know that they are able to understand and learn this. Which encourages students to go on with their knowledge of the Bible for years to come.
Schultz also stressed the importance of a biblical worldview in the teacher. As the leader in each classroom the students will adapt their teacher’s beliefs, values and finally actions. If they are taught by a teacher who holds a dualistic view of dividing the sacred and the secular, or a postmodern or modern worldview, it will adversely affect the ability of that child to develop Christ centered wisdom based upon the Word of God. Schultz, in referring to the education of children, stated “anything that hinders their moral and spiritual development is the epitome of child abuse.” (2006, p. 163). As such, our curriculum, teaching methods, and moral example, must all reflect a biblical worldview that will evangelize and discipline each student to know and love Jesus Christ.
I am primarily interested in how religion was taught in the early 1970s. Including: what religions were covered, how they were integrated into the text, and the values of the religion that were presented. With my interest in possibly majoring in religious studies I feel that I have an excellent understanding of how religion is taught in our high schools today, but I don’t have a thorough understanding of what it was like to grow up in school in the 1970s and go through school. How was religion presented in the textbooks of schools in the 1970s? My primary goal of this paper is to further my understanding of religion in high schools of the 1970s. Then I would like to further my study by looking at newer documents and regulations that are in place now to govern religion that is taught and expressed in our schools today. What I expect to find is that religion was taught similarly in the 70s without all the newer policies and guidelines of today. Lastly I would like to look at how these policies and regulations in our public schools are affecting our students.

They would need to show their understanding of the Christian story of creation by using an original method of displaying the events of the first seven days. I believe this fits also with GCO 8, students will be expected to use writing and other ways of representing to explore, clarify, and reflect on their thoughts, feeling, experiences, and learning; and to use their imaginations. I believe this because they are using another way to represent what they understand and need to use their imagination to do so. It also falls under SCO 8.2, students will be expected to use note-making, illustrations and other ways or representing to reconstruct knowledge. Religion in school can be defined as the practice of any personal religious belief or act in a place of education. To say that religion is a big topic of interest to a lot of people in the United States today is a bit of an understatement. The debate over the separation of church and state has been going on without end for years. With many different perspectives on the matter and even more opinions on how it should be handled. Since the beginning many people have challenged the role that religion has played in education. Should schools teach religion? If so, can they do it evenhandedly? Will they misinterpret the religion wrong? How many people would be offended? Would we be better off without it so that it doesn’t cause controversy? The problem is can we truly answer any of these arguments without the opposite side disagreeing? Many of these questions are rooted from the same controversy that is happening in schools today. Aside from the separation of church and states comes one of the vastly debatable topics of education allowing religion which is prayer in school. While a few believe that prayer in school is constructive to the development of a child and their faith, others may conclude that it could completely denounce the faith of a child. Because this is an ongoing controversy further research on whether religion should or should not be allowed in public education is usually boils down to two major points the First Amendment and is religion good for our children? Could we potentially have a compromise or could the two opposing sides meet somewhere in the middle?

The Bible student, laymen, or pastor will find the principles presented by Fee and Stuart helpful despite the weaknesses presented. The author’s contribution on how to interpret each of the different genres is especially beneficial. The Bible Student will have more knowledge of how to interpret God’s Word when finished with the work. Fee and Stuart achieve their goal helping the reader not only with interpretation, but with application.
“Students must learn to process both words and pictures” (Tompkins, 153). I agree with this statement, however, I don’t have a lot of experience with it in the classroom. I taught my own children how to think critically to images whether they were on TV or in print while I home schooled. I am sad that many students go to school and their parents have not taught them how to think or appreciate visual language arts. It seems this is a responsibility that teachers should take seriously. I don’t teach language arts, but I do teach Bible to my homeroom class. One student just came to America this summer. Resources are designed to support us as teachers to plan, deliver and assess our teaching and lesson delivery. All the materials and books, a variation and diversification of approaches, resources used for different learning styles, in order to meet the needs of all my students were contributing to the professional development and continuing education. Preparing visual prompts to stimulate, the use of colour in my slides, always helped to stimulate the interest and emphasise the key points in my teaching. However, computer-based technology, provided opportunities to develop ICT skills. Thus, through class sessions and little practice students were developing skills to use it, and create professionally looking and visually stimulating slides. Growing up I was raised in a religious household, so, of course, I’m a big believer in God and my faith. To me, God is the creator of all and I believe Judgment Day is going to come very soon.The definition of faith is the belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion. My faith and the reason for my faith goes hand in hand because it makes me know the truth and opens my eyes to this world. Also, I get clarity of why I’m in this world which is to make it a better place. But seeing the world as faith with reason or reason with faith has a few challenges and can make things a little bit difficult. Same goes for science and religion which butt heads a lot. I will try to prepare my lesson 100% to enhance learning. I will try to research my topic and try to integrate different resources and activities to make my lesson engaging and interesting to my students. I am able to use a variety of methods to teach a lesson to the students. This helps the students to get engaged visually, physically and verbally. I did not know, but I really like to use different resources and art materials to create something that will enhance my lesson and able to engage my students throughout the lesson. By creating and using a variety of methods and activities during the center time, I can meet the student’s needs to help them to learn.
