Recommended: The Importance Of Cultural Anthropology

Anthropology is known as the study of human beings, over time and space. We often look at anthropology as just the evolution of mankind and their basic development. After taking a class in Cultural Anthropology, I’ve come to realize how much more in depth it is. There are many different aspects that we do not look at. We do not need to be anthropologists to see how these concepts can apply to our daily lives. Anthropology makes you to look at the world differently than you were taught too. Cultural anthropology, has a holistic approach that helps us to see how one society relates to itself and how that society can be taken on its own terms without bias. It helps to identify our own way of viewing various different cultures around the world and realize that the way we do things and see things may not be the only right way there is. There are other people around the world that are different from us and do things differently that we are used to or that we find to be “the right way”.
Understanding other people is necessary in functioning and interacting with others. This is where anthropology comes in and helps us to learn about them. Anthropology looks at numerous different groups of humans and finds common grounds between them. In the world today, numerous of people change because of the influences of other cultures and changes in they’re environment. For example, I was born in Guyana, which in in South America and I moved to the United States when I was 12. My culture back home was very much different than the western culture of the US. After moving here, I felt out of place and a sense of not belonging. But I became observant of my surroundings and easily started to learn and become a part of what is now my own culture. ...he methods that anthropologists need to know. They use this to build relationships with strangers that they’re studying from different societies. This is something that is a skill we use almost everyday. Observation is another key skill you will likely use. We always observe what is around us and how other people interact. Also in the business world, these concepts in anthropology helps us to learn to interact with others and deal with people who can be not so easy to deal with.
Anthropology gives us a chance to expand ourselves as human beings. I find that the information I left this class with will be a guideline for many different parts of my life and will help me to see things in different views. It will help me to uncover various parts of my own culture and how our everyday perception and understandings is blocked by not knowing what else is out there.
