The purpose of this research paper is to discuss the importance of corrosion monitoring technology and development in the industrial oil section in terms of cost reduction. An investigation of the most common used ways to monitor the corrosion rate and a comparison of the monitoring methods; in term of applicability, losses savings and monitoring speed was carried on to give the people who read this research an idea of these methods.
Using the data found in the resources and the data collected through the survey and interviews, a general idea of the importance of developing corrosion monitoring methods can be concluded. Because of the money losses that corrosion cause each year, serious measurements had to take place to try and stop such huge losses or at least reduce them to their minimum levels. In the survey, 100% voted that the corrosion monitoring is critically important in the industrial areas.
Deciding what the best ways to monitor the corrosion rate are; is another idea that can be concluded from the data provided in this research. Different monitoring methods are available, but this research focused on the most common used ones. Coupons method for example is bitterly used in testing the materials, to know there properties and corrosion resistivity, before implementing them in the design or structure. Fiber optics, which is the newest method, provide the fastest monitoring readings and results, which means faster response to the corrosion development. The votes on the survey also provided some idea on how fast a method can give results, and also how much each method can save.
The worst implication in applying any corrosion monitoring system is the integrating part. This means that applying the corrosion monitoring system for the first time needs a good understanding and well awareness of development in this field. To decide on what the best method is for the company and how much a company could invest in a system, needs a lot of knowledge. The company most also be willing to invest some money in updating the monitoring system they are using and also in maintenance from time to time. It is also a good chance to mention that corrosion monitoring data in itself can be of relatively limited value. It must be transformed into information for decision making purposes.
While it is impossible to monitor a corrosion problem away, it is possible to use corrosion monitoring to better understand such problems and implement effective solutions.
A pipeline welder is my post secondary plan. A pipeline welder is someone who travels place to place to weld on pipelines. My uncle is a pipeline welder he travels to offshore rigs or to different countries to weld on pipes that his company uses to drill for oil. These welders make between $50,000 to $185,000 a year. This job requires at least a high school diploma others employers look for certifications from technical schools.
The proponents of the pipeline include TransCanada, other companies that will connect into the pipeline to transport their product and companies that will benefit financially from the construction of the pipeline. Persons that will benefit from present and future employment also support the pipeline. Opponents include environmentalists and landowners along the path. The ethical dilemma is that companies, including TransCanada, have the right to operate and transport their product to market so they can generate a profit. The health and future of these companies and the jobs people enjoy from employment with them are at risk. The affected landowners have rights due to ownership. The environment should be protected
As a tribal member it is very important to care for nature and respect the land. With the recent problems Michigan has faced, including but not limited to, the Enbridge 5 pipeline that runs under the straights of mackinaw and the Flint water contamination, it is important to me that we do what we can to be a part of the solution verses the problem. No matter what the amount of recycling Bay Mills Community College accumulates, with no recycling plan set in place the tribal college of Bay Mills will remain a part of the problem.
Recently, TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline has become a hot debate topic. Those who oppose the Western United States oil pipeline are misled and uniformed. The US Government should authorize the Keystone XL Pipeline that would import tar sand oil from Canada. The pipeline would generate jobs and help to remove foreign oil dependency, is the safest transportation option being considered and finally will not harm or affect the environment as opponents claim.
If equipment flaw or a defective part is spotted, the damaged machine directly stops, and operators halt production and rectify the identified problem. It is essential ...
The high temperature application of Austenitic Stainless Steel is somewhat limited because at higher temperatures it undergoes a phenomenon called Sensitization. According to Ghosh et al. [1], it refers to the precipitation of carbides and nitrides at the grain boundaries. Precipitation of Chromium rich carbides (Cr23C6) and nitrides at the grain boundaries result when the Austenitic stainless steel is heated and held in the temperature range of 500-8500C (773K-1123K). This precipitation of carbides taking place at the grain boundary is because of their insolubility at these temperature ranges. This leads to Chromium depreciated regions around the grain boundaries. So the change in microstructure is takes place and the regions with low Chromium contents become susceptible to Intergranular Corrosion (IGC) and Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking (Alvarez et al.) [1, 2]. Along with carbides and nitrides there is formation of chi phase. The chi phase, which is a stable intermetallic compound, consists of Fe, Cr, and Mo of type M18C. Some studies reveal that sensitization may lead to formation of Martensite. In addition to the altered microstructure, mechanical properties of the Austenitic Stain...
This paper will first discuss the development of the steel industry. Next, it will examine steel, and in the impact it had on the transportation industry. Finally, it will discuss systematic management practices of this time and how they gave birth to the scientific approach that is still in use today.
The purpose of this project was to discover how the pH level affects corrosion rate. The hypothesis was if the pH level affects the corrosion rate, then the lower the pH level is quicker the corrosion rate would be. This will happen because liquids below the pH level of 7 possess stronger acidic attributes. The effect of pH level on corrosion rate was determined by depositing a copper penny in each of three plastic cups, and then three different liquids by their pH levels, were assigned to be displaced into each cup formulating a chemical reaction to be observed. The results collected during this investigation contradicted with the intended result, this experiment was conducted to determine corrosion rate; Dana Puti Vingear (pH level: 4.5) 4 2/3 days, Tropicana Orange Juice (pH level 3.88) 6 1/3 days, and Sprite (pH level: 3.4) 8 days. The results showed that the hypothesis was refuted. This happened because the preconceived idea was that the liquid with the lowest pH level; Sprite, would have the quickest corrosion rate. Dana Puti Vinegar had the quickest corrosion rate proving the statement wrong, it was discovered that it contains ethanoic acid; acid containing twice the amount of carbon dioxide than a regular acid. To further understand this topic, future research could include; how does the amount of liquid incorporated affect the corrosion rate, how does the temperature of the liquid affect the corrosion rate, and how does the purity of iron affect the corrosion rate?
First I look at the wiring and hoses for cracks, and for something that has become disconnected. For example, a vacuum hose on an older car sometimes becomes hard from the engine heat and can become loose or disconnected because of normal vibration. Then I look at the battery post for that greenish colored corrosion on the battery post. If there is some I clean it off using backing soda mixed in water. I am careful
Inspection between each flight besides avoiding accidents, it also helps engineers to understand what problems that would be aroused by operation environment. Pre-flight inspection of Aloha 243 was only carried out before the first flight each day which is inadequate. Besides, all inspection records at each inspection should be kept; it records all the status of the parts and help engineers to understand how the aircraft structures would be affected after each operation.
The oil & gas industry is among the largest industries in the world. The sector generates large revenues and employs a large number of people in order to meet the worldwide demand for energy.
As part of the process of developing an effective preventive maintenance program, it is also needed to change the whole organization mind-set, about maintenance. There are several steps involved in the implementation of preventive main...
Condition assessments and performance assessments are interconnected, as shown in Figure XYZ. This is due to the fact that the decline of the condition of an infrastructure can result in the failure of the performance or serviceability. Preferably, condition assessments and performance assessments are collected multiple times throughout a number of years from the same section of the asset. The information attained from the condition assessment and the performance assessments can be used to make predictions of the future condition and performance of the assets. The information from these assessments is typically only valuable for a “mature” asset management system which has been in position for a significant amount of time. Due to cost and time restraints these assessments are typically not realistic for an organization to continually collect and assess data. When examining newer assets it may be beneficial to examine similar assets that have been constructed at years prior to predict the future performance and condition of the asset.
A hazard is a potential damage, adverse health or harm that may effects something or someone at any conditions. Other than that, the risk may be high or low, that somebody could be harmed depending on the hazards. Risk assessment is a practice that helps to improve higher quality of the develop process and manufacturing process. It is also a step to examine the failure modes of the product in order to achieve higher standard of safety and product reliability. Unfortunately, it is common that a product safety risk assessments are not undertaken, or not carried out effectively by manufacturer. Mostly an unsafe and unreliable product was produced and launched on to the market. Thus, the safety problems are mostly identified after an accident happened or after manufacturing problems arisen. In order to prevent risk, a person should take enough precautions or should do more to prevent them because as a user should be protected from harm that usually caused by a failure for whom did not take reasonable control measures.
When there is the work related to the health burden then the proper care is required so the responsible members are answerable in the cases of any bad accident. It is observed that the construction is basically the largest industry. There are several construction projects that are to be held in the country as well as outside the country. Several contracts are really on the large basis. Moreover, the extreme complicated projects are to be headed by the construction companies of Europe. In this case there are necessary precautionary measures that are to be taken by the project managing
