In the article The Cosmic Perspective by Neil deGrasse Tyson he examines a range of topics from human life coming from Mars to how our perspective of the universe relates to religion. In the year 2000, a new space show opened at the Hayden Planetarium called Passport to the Universe, which compared the size of people Milky Way and beyond. While a show like this might make someone feel minuscule and insignificant, Tyson says that seeing the size of the universe actually makes him feel more alive not less and gives him a sense of grandeur. I agree with his idea that looking at us as a people in comparison can actually give you a sense of grandeur. However, when I compare myself to the vastness of space, it puts events on Earth in perspective while showing how influential we can be as a people even if we are small.

Fourteenth century England drew witness to many disruptions in time. The 100 Years War, Peasants Revolt, and Black Death are among the many tumultuous events that provide the context for some of the greatest literary masterpieces ever composed. Geoffrey Chaucer and the Pearl Poet are amid the most venerated poets on record. Is it purely chance, or did this era cultivate finely tuned writing ability through its refined culture? Just as we will never know the name of the Pearl Poet, we can only infer the social and educational mores of the fourteenth century through the caliber of writers it produced. The era uniformly affects the poem content of Chaucer and the Pearl Poet, but the values can be argued by one simple, differing factor. While Chaucer seemed to write to the popularity of his work, the Pearl Poet chose to not inscribe his name on his manuscripts. As Geoffrey Chaucer indefinitely marks his pages in history, the Pearl Poet, mysteriously, saves his literary breath for after he's literally taken his last. With no name and little evidence of its origination, the producer of the poems, Pearl, Purity, Patience, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight will most likely remain anonymous, or commonly known as the "Pearl Poet," for the remainder of history. Whether his work was an offering to God, or whether he chose to leave the poems nameless because of the ill repute of English-written manuscripts, the Pearl Poet's work still ranks him with Chaucer and other literary geniuses. Akin to they're repute, their literary practices are very much alike. Chaucer and the Pearl Poet share in the same literary practices through their incorporation of the dream narrative, satire of nobility, Boethius, and the Golden Section.
The passages read from Calvino’s Cosmicomics used abstract concepts to get Calvino’s ideas and statements across. Calvino used an ageless being named Qfwfq to help him get his ideas and thoughts across. Calvino not only uses an ageless being, but he also uses love stories, since love is universal, to help the reader feel more connected and understand what Calvino is trying to say. The love stories Calvino uses to explore his ideas on complexity for simplicity are similar as they are different. There are four passages that had some sort of a love story to portray Calvino’s ideas.

A star begins as nothing more than a very light distribution of interstellar gases and dust particles over a distance of a few dozen lightyears. Although there is extremely low pressure existing between stars, this distribution of gas exists instead of a true vacuum. If the density of gas becomes larger than .1 particles per cubic centimeter, the interstellar gas grows unstable. Any small deviation in density, and because it is impossible to have a perfectly even distribution in these clouds this is something that will naturally occur, and the area begins to contract. This happens because between about .1 and 1 particles per cubic centimeter, pressure gains an inverse relationship with density. This causes internal pressure to decrease with increasing density, which because of the higher external pressure, causes the density to continue to increase. This causes the gas in the interstellar medium to spontaneously collect into denser clouds. The denser clouds will contain molecular hydrogen (H2) and interstellar dust particles including carbon compounds, silicates, and small impure ice crystals. Also, within these clouds, there are 2 types of zones. There are H I zones, which contain neutral hydrogen and often have a temperature around 100 Kelvin (K), and there are H II zones, which contain ionized hydrogen and have a temperature around 10,000 K. The ionized hydrogen absorbs ultraviolet light from it’s environment and retransmits it as visible and infrared light. These clouds, visible to the human eye, have been named nebulae. A galaxy, also called a nebula, consists of billions of stars, interstellar gas, dust, and dark matter which are all bound to form a massive cloud in which we live in. Although it cannot be very well explained, dark matter makes up at least 90% of a galaxy’s mass. Galaxies also contain billions upon billions of stars and their diameter can range from 1,500 to 300,000 light years. That’s huge! The Milky Way, the galaxy in which we live in, is one of about 170 billion galaxies in the observable universe. Our Sun is one of the billions of stars in our galaxy, and our eight planets revolve around this star in only a tiny part of our galaxy. “The Earth’s solar system is believed to exist very close to the Galaxy’s galactic plane, due to the fact that the Milky Way essentially divides the night sky into two virtually equal hemispheres” ("All About the Milky"). It definitely makes people second guess the fact of there being life on other planets.
Generally, the universe began as a composition of radiation and subatomic particles, which proceeded with galaxies formation. Galaxies are made up of hydrogen, helium, 100-200 billions of stars, planets and most having a black hole at the center, which attracts everything present in galaxies by force of gravity. Galaxies can be classified as either spiral (Milky Way- galaxy which human kind has been found to exist), elliptical, lenticular and irregular, where the structure is determined by neighboring galaxies with most galaxies are moving away from each other. Classification of galaxies is being conducted by online programs such as Galaxy zoo, using pictures from telescopes and is making significant progress.
