Few issues have fell victim to a more dramatic reoccurrence of interest in recent years than corruption. This issue in our government system has been a widely known problem for many years. Stemming from the time of George Washington, buying alcohol as a treat for his potential voters on election day, to the 2012 election raking in upwards of $7 billion dollars spent by candidates towards their campaigns, the players within the political system have mastered manipulating their supporters and the stage as a whole (Ross, Aaron, et al). Means of corruption include bribery, patronage, electoral fraud, embezzlements and numerous more present in our American history. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a cold war espionage film directed by Tomas Alfredson in 2011, based off of John Le Carre’s novel. As he returns and the Cold War continues, there is rising suspicion of a double agent within the service. This mission seems nearly impossible from the beginning, until an undercover agent’s relations with a Turkish woman reveals a lead. As the story unfolds, Smiley’s boss, the operator of MI6 compiles a list of the possible subjects, labeling them Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Poor Man, and Beggar Man. The film is filled with constant twists and turns, and consists of groups of flashbacks, giving the viewer proper insight into the story. Although the film can be primarily identified as a film about double agents or subversive insurgents, it presents a large take on American politics and how even the most relevant and popular figures have done things under the radar to supplement themselves and their campaigns, and take advantage of the other
