Equal rights for same sex marriage and domestic partnership has been a huge controversy across the country for years. Even though some states allow it, there are still issues regarding equal benefits and rights towards different situations. Based on the four different political perspectives, each one has a different idea about whether or not same sex or domestic partnerships deserve the same benefits. Based on the text, conservatives are the group that likes to resist change. They follow a more traditional set of values in which they believe will keep them away from negative consequences. (Popple, P., 2011) If a conservative likes to emphasize on tradition and stick to the way things have always been, then they are most likely going to be against same sex marriage in the first place. On the other hand, conservatives look at same sex and domestic partnerships as two completely different views. For one, same sex relations were never a part of society decades ago. They may have been around, but they were not recognized and therefore were not traditional. In many situations conservatives oppose gay rights due to homosexual behavior being an unnatural act. Many groups disagree with domestic partnerships because they feel it opens certain doors of equality right for the LBGT community. (Laws, 2013) When it comes to them having equal rights for health care and social services, I believe conservatives will shy away from the idea of same sex and domestic partnerships receiving these benefits.
