Pros and Cons of Inclusion Education
An ongoing argument or debate that is often talk about today is on the inclusion of special needs students in to “regular” education classrooms. This controversial topic contains advocates for both sides, for example, James Kauffman of the University of Virginia believes that inclusion of these types of students is unrealistic expectations in which too much money will be spend. He argues that this is like make somebody do something against their own will and a discriminatory act because it is forcing all the students into one classroom setting. Many other teachers feel like they spend more time working or assisting a child with disabilities then they do with the students without disabilities. This leads to a disagreement on full inclusion, meaning that all students in spite of having a disability are put in regular classrooms or programs. Educators feel like they are not allowed enough time to cover certain lessons, the reason being that depending on the different disabilities the child might have it depends how long the child will take to comprehend the information given to them through the lessons. Furthermore, since the educator needs to spend more time helping the students make the connections this can lead to potentially make the class fall behind in learning the necessary curriculum. On the other hand, teachers who are special educators that are part of a partial inclusion use a team approach to provide the aide needed to the special need students often feel like they are an institutional aide to the classroom and not a fully qualified teacher. However, that is not an issue that is often use nor hard to solve. A bigger issue is the lack of special equipment, materials, and recommended resources needed to provide the proper learning environment for these students. This …show more content…

Even though it might be a little hard or different for everyone at first I believe that people learn to adjust and adapt to the changes and differences. People with disabilities should not be seen as different in an uncomfortable way and in order to achieve that we need to be exposed and be around all different kinds of people. I also like what the United States Code (USC) Section 1400 section says, “Disability is a natural part of the human experience and in no way diminishes the right of individuals to participate in or contribute to society. Improving educational results for children with disabilities is an essential element of our national policy of ensuring equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities.” This encourages me and I am sure many people have read it feel like there is acknowledgment and understanding of being wanting to be treaded normal and
