In present society, there are many conflicts within the Canadian First Nations, despite the fact that majority of the conflicts have been resolved. Like any other marginalized group, they continue to struggle and have limited opportunities and successes. Due to the factors of unemployment, death rates, health issues, and racism, many of the conflicts that involve Aboriginal people are not resolved. As a result of the lack of education given, the low standard of living, and isolation from society, the First Nations people continue to struggle and have limited success. However, it would be possible to resolve their struggles.

Aboriginals have a higher risk for illness and earlier death due to their low standard of health. The poor dental care is one of the causes of the many illnesses that exist in Aboriginal communities. Since teeth is usually untreated for such a long period of time, only teeth removing is the only option for First Nations and this has caused various kinds of illnesses. Once Aboriginals turn eighteen, they can pay for their own dental services such as fluoride treatments but most do not due to their expenses. Aboriginal children are three to four more times likely to die from unexpected injury than non-Aboriginal peoples;common deaths includesexual assault, murder, and particularlysuicide, which brings up the topic of the staggering suicide rates within the First Nation’s environment. An article stated that, “suicide rates are five to seven times higher for First Nations youth than for non-Aboriginal youth, and for Inuit youth, the rate is among the highest in the world - 11 times the national average.” (Joseph, 9) According to Michelle Derosier and Dave Clement, the reason behind this extremely high rate is due to, Aboriginal Drug and substance abuse, and lack of housing, food and opportunity.
