Using the specification given on the task sheet I will recommend hardware, software and peripherals Paul can use in order to achieve the work-style given (Home-based office). I will take into consideration the constraints; such as lack of space in his ‘small box room’. As a postage destination is not included, I will only include the retail price of the product without p&p.

According to Paul’s requirements he requires a printer, scanner and a photocopier. As a compact solution I have chosen an all-in-one PSC (Printer Scanner Copier), which I have listed below.

Not only is this a cheap solution it’s also a cost-effective solution. Weighing in at around 6kg and the dimensions standing at ‘42.6 x 23.5 x 30.5 cm’ it is a perfectly sized product which clearly meets Paul’s requirements.

After evaluating the site survey it is determined that a wireless local area network (WLAN) with a star topology design would work best for this office. This design gives the small office the wireless access it needs and provides wired access to the network for the shared resources, printers and wired users to connect to. I would suggest using CAT 5e wiring for the wired devices as it is cost effective and supports networking speeds up to 350 MHz (Dean, 2013, p. 102). This design also allows the office to add more users or devices easily with little impact to the network design.
