To begin, there were three different types of plays performed during the medieval time period; The Mystery Play, the Miracle Play and the Morality Play. Mystery plays were stories taken from the Bible. Each play had four or five different scenes or acts. The priests and monks were the actors. Each scene or act was performed at a different place in town and the people moved from one stage to the next to watch the play. The play usually ended outside the church so that the people would go to church and hear a sermon after watching the play (Donn). At the same time, the Miracle play was about the life or actions of a saint, usually about the actions that made that person a saint (Donn). He is angry at the fact that no one is afraid of him and realizes that he must take action. I believe that these words said by God effectively showed the audience the “power” of God and the way he wants us to live our lives. Soon after this, Death notices Everyman “finely dressed” and tells him of the journey he must take; in order to confess his good and bad deeds to God. This can be seen when Death says: “On thee thou must take a long journey; Therefore thy book of count with the thou bring...For before God thou Shalt answer, and show Thy many bad deeds, and good but a few (Lines 103-108).” Eventually Everyman meets other characters, such as: Fellowship and Kindred and Cousin, Goods, Knowledge, Discretion, Strength, Beauty and Five Wits. Although some of them promise to go with him; he ends up alone as he goes on his journey. Likewise, the character Good Deeds claims to be too weak to follow Everyman through the rest of his journey. This refusal to accompany him through his journey; shows us how he truly had nothing aside from his good deeds in life. However, even his good deeds weren’t enough to save him from
