Matthew Mark and Luke are the first three gospels, and when they are compared it is evident that happenings in each book are similar. These three books are referred to as “Synoptic Gospels” for this reason. To understand, we must know that basically the word means “to come together with a common view.” It has been argued that the three gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke are much alike that they use each other’s Gospels and other common views or sources. Because these books have so much similarity they have been given the title of “Q” from the German word quelle, which means source. There is no evidence of the “Q” documents however.
