The Gaget Leonardo and the Amazing Aquarium Have you ever surfed on the vast waves of learning and growing minds. If you have or not the Gaget Leonardo museum and the Amazing Aquarium will take you there. Both are located right in Utah and both are very fun to take your family to. Also, both are towering building with wonders to find but, are uniquely different. While the Leonardo will let you play with gadgets gizmos galore, the Aqaurium will lead you to your inner deep scuba diver or into the deep jungles and rain forests of South America. The Aquarium, has many animals and different types of environments for them. They have, South America, Utah, Antartica, Asia, and Ocean Exporer. Each environment has a different temperture for the different animals in each exhibit. For example, the South America is very warm, but the Antartica is very could. Instead, they have, mind boggling, think hard, machines, drawings, and more! One step into the giant 3 level building, and there is already a big brown wooden skeleton of wings that you can climb, and take a picture with. Then, choose left or right into the wonders of learning. There is so much to see! If you go left, there is a green screen with green objects; choose a background and then put something green on, then that part of you will be invisible! You can be like Harry Potter under the invisibility cloak. If you go right there is a giant silver aircraft in the air, and a airplane simulator. Or go up, there is 3 floors of fun! Upstairs there are a lot of building activitys such as, legos, giant marble run that goes to the ceiling, and more! A perfect size would be a large glass terrarium 18” by 36” by 18”. That terrarium costs around $235 dollars new. First I visited the Environment Floor. This was my least favorite of all the floors. The first exhibit I looked at was called ?The Estuary.? This had many different tanks filled with fish that normally dwell in the lower Hudson River. Next I visited the solar telescope. I walked inside what the Science Center calls their lighthouse, and found that they have an actual solar telescope mounted on their roof. From this telescope I saw images of the sun?s surface. The next exhibit I visited was call the Bug Zoo, unfortunately I didn?t stay there long. It was filled with tanks holding cockroaches, millipedes, and even honeybees, along with a small greenhouse. Albeit not hands on, the exhibit is very interactive. There are some videos included, with one being the beginning synopsis of what is to come.
From that point on there’s a digital interactive guide that displays the layout of the museum and location of the exhibits. The museum is divided into quadrants with an elliptical rotunda in the middle. The rotunda is illuminated by natural light from the glass dome with skylights above you. Also when you look up you can see extraordinary symbolic painting on the ceiling. From the center of the rotunda you can go left or right to see the exhibits of Native Americans. For some reason I felt like going in through the left, aside from the fact that the right side was closed for renovations. Throughout every human’s life in the United States, there will portably come a time when they take a trip to an aquarium or zoo. Do not get me wrong; it is incredible to see all those beautiful creatures up close and personal, but most people do not realize what actually is going on. Typically, when the day is spent at the zoo or aquarium, the day usually follows a schedule like this: You spend the day roaming the grounds, moving from habitat to habitat, break for lunch, and then once you’ve seen everything you want to see you return home and are free to do whatever you want to do. Instantly, the bright lighting and cleanliness of the interior of the facility struck me. The bright lighting seemed to highlight the multi-colored artwork and durable furniture in the room to make the space feel child-friendly. Organization was one of the key aspects that helped the teachers and children have a safe and fun learning experience. For cleaning and emergencies, essential items and areas were labeled properly, and were accessible to adult caregivers, but out of reach to children to prevent health and safety risks. The floors were clean and free of clutter to promote free movement and play in each classroom. The toys were child-sized, and there no small, detachable pieces to avoid choking hazards. Within the classroom, the interest centers are arranged along the walls, and during reading instruction, the middle area is used to form a reading circle. The preschoolers had a variety of activities to choose from at each interest station. The Block Center had Lego blocks, wooden blocks and shapes; The Writing Center had dry erase boards, paper and pencils; the Cooking Center was filled with play foods and a child-sized kitchen set; and the Math Center had wooden stick and rubber cubes for counting. The teachers interacted with the children by guiding activities in the classroom, allowing the children to play independently on the playground, constantly communicating behavioral
The Pre-K and Kindergarten class studied habitats of various animals and insects. They were given examples and tough how the animals made their homes. The students built a bird house as their project and as something to take home to remind them of what they learned. Finally they went on a field trip to Legoland where they explored and built “habitats” for their families and the Lego people. The first and second grade class learned about marine life and the ocean. They built shoe box dioramas of coral reefs and created art projects depicting sea life as well as learning new facts about the ocean. The students got to go to the Aquarium for their field trip. Finally the third and fourth graders studied the rain forests and their ecosystems. The students built rainforest models and terrariums along with small group discussions on different ideas human intervention and conservation. The Last Supper by Leonardo is very different to Tintoretto’s representation of the same incident. The last supper is one of the most important occurrences which took place in the Christian religion such an important event that many have seen the need for the event visually recorded through art the two most famous of these representations are by far Tintoretto’s and Leonardo’s works. The Last Supper by Leonardo was created during the renaissance period and is a simple symbolic work with little emotion. Tintoretto however chose to represent the event in a surrealistic manner to give full impact; A way in which was typical of the art period in which he painted the work, the Mannerist period. The two works although essentially containing the same subject differ immensely. This difference is strongly evident through the artists contrasting use of colour, light, realism, technique perception and focal point/s.
As I walk into the museum onto the first level, there are many different halls surrounding. To my left there is the African mammal exhibit. There are so many different creatures displayed, ranging from desert to rainforest. Some of the animals that are displayed are the Arabian Oryx, Savanna Elephant, Spotted Hyena, Hippopotamus and Okapi. Through time due to advancements in material and painting techniques combined with the ever-increasing talent of the artists, paintings representing people have become very lifelike and are extremely realistic. Some painted portraits have as much detail as modern photographs. However, there are also paintings of people that are representational in which the artist is trying to convey a message. This paper discusses the two types through the comparison of two paintings, Abaporu and Portrait of a Lady.
During my visit to the Pérez Art Museum Miami, I did more than just observing beautiful artworks. With the guidelines provided I could appreciate and study also the hidden meaning of some of the pieces I had in front of me. Some of them were easier than other ones, due to previous knowledge I had, but all of them made me examine them in a critic way that enriched my cultural heritage.
As I walked in and looked around, I noticed how big it was and how many people there were. There was not only amazing art, but great views of Los Angeles, which I found really impressive as well. The work of art that caught my eye was Claude Monet’s oil painting Sunrise c. 1873. To its left was The Portail of Rouen Cathedral in Morning Light c. 1894 and to the right was Still Life with Flowers and Fruit c. 1869. The subject of the sea from Monet’s Sunrise I was able to associate it with, Hokouasi’s Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji c. 1826-1833. The museum was a very fun experience, and finding a piece of art from our readings in class made the experience a lot more rewarding, because I was able to take what I learned in class and apply it outside of
The first zoo in the United States was established in 1874 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia zoo first only had 813 animals but has grown today to have 1,300 animals, still having the same forty-two acres as it did when it first opened. Today there are zoos in almost every major city across the country and even more around the world. But along with zoos, there are marine parks and aquariums. The most famous marine park is SeaWorld, which has three different locations in the nation: Orlando, San Diego and San Antonio. Zoos and aquariums were first brought about to learn about the species that we live with on this planet. To be educated about the wild creatures who are so different from ourselves. Zoos and the caging of wild animals have been around for centuries, there is evidence from Egypt of rulers having wild animals as pets, locking them in cages, just like how today people have hamsters but instead, you would have a wild animal. The inside of the museum was intense because you walk into see two huge dinosaur structures in the front. There were also many entrances to different exhibits on top the entrances were enormous murals depicting various things. The murals showed all of the cultures around the world. All of the cultures are able to mix in with each other. For instance, the mural on top of the Asian Peoples exhibit was showing the many different Asian cultures such as Japanese, Korean, and Chinese mixing into one huge mural. There was the mural on top of the African Peoples exhibit that included prominent animals such as, lions and elephants.
