In "Dear Juliet" Omer's family is the enemy of Hala's family, but Hala and Omer have fallen in love. This relates to “Romeo and Juliet” because in the play “Romeo and Juliet” Juliet’s parents want her to marry Paris but she has fallen in love with Romeo and has already married him. In both of these stories the main characters decide to go against their family’s wishes and follow their heart. Romeo and Juliet in Bosnia is an informational text that is about two people of different religions falling in love. In Romeo and Juliet in Bosnia, Bosko and Admira are the main characters of the article that come from families of different religions, but although their families don’t approve they fall in love. Zijo who is Admira’s dad has knew about the relationship for a while and didn’t mind because Bosko was very nice. But, although Admira’s father approves the relationship her grandmother Sadika Ismic doesn’t because of their religious differences and believes that the relationship won’t work out because of their religious differences. Bosko then goes away on his required military service. When the 1984 Winter Olympics occurred Bosko had to make a hard decision. He couldn’t make a decision so he and Admira decided to run away. In order to run away they must cross a bridge between the Serb and Muslim lines. Unfortunately they were short and no one knows who shot them. “Dear Juliet” is a news article about people who write letters to Verona, Italy. People wrote the letters to Verona, Italy to receive advice about their love lives. One of the letters sent describes the story of a couple who is in love but, their families are enemies. “Dear Juliet” and Romeo and Juliet in Bosnia are similar because they both deal with love and people following their hearts.
