The Occasional Walk This world is full of exciting things to do. With beautiful parks and majestic forests, even a stroll can bring up some wild thoughts. In the short story “Miss Brill” by Katherine Mansfield, and the short story “A Worn Path” by Eudora Welty, two women (Miss Brill and Mrs. Jackson) embark on mysterious and imaginative journeys. Like a lot of stories, “Miss Brill” and “A Worn Path” have a great number of similarities. While the general idea of each story is similar, the actuality of them are different. Both stories have an elderly woman walking to a destination. In both stories, the elderly woman experiences some imaginative thoughts. Miss Brill sits on a bench pondering the world around her. Miss Brill has a routine of attendance to the park. She wears the same clothes and arrives at the same time. Miss Brill enjoys spending her time at the park. As Miss Brill Sits there, she begins to imagine the world as a play. Miss Brill sees herself as being the main character. She listens to the band and decides that every sound they make is for her. The diversity of attendees to the play excites Miss Brill. Miss Brill enjoys the park and its features to please herself. Miss Brill overhears a young couple chatting. Miss Brill wears the same fur piece every time she goes to the park. The young lady tells her partner that Miss Brill smells and the fur was hideous. Hearing this upset Miss Brill. Miss Brill made her way home upset. She now is in reality again where she is not the main character in a beautiful play, but an old woman who means little in the eyes of
