Characters, one of the most important things in a movie. After all, characters basically make up a movie. In the film “Spirited Away”, Chihiro, a 10 year old girl has entered a spirit world, trying to save her parents. It could be a dangerous journey, after all, humans aren’t allowed in the spirit world. Haku, a river spirit, tries to help Chihiro in getting herself and her parents home. There may be some obstacles, but Chihiro finds her way through, and saves her parents. Despite the amazing adventure, there are some similarities and differences between Chihiro and Haku. They were both brave and caring, although Chihiro was more hopeful than Haku. An example for Chihiro, is that after she completed her job by giving the Stink spirit a bath, which gave her a ball of medicine. She didn't know what it was, but she had a dream of her giving it to her pig parents. Later in the film, Haku was in his spirit form, and was badly injured. Chihiro gave Haku her ball of medicine, and asked the boiler man, Kamaji to take care of him, while she returns a golden seal. This represents caring, because Chihiro took care of Haku when he was injured, and gave him the medicine. Chihiro also returned the seal to save Haku’s life. In contrast, Haki helped Chihiro on her journey in the spirit world. He made sure that Chihiro got out with her parents safely. Another example, is when Chihiro met her parents in the pig pen, Haku gave Chihiro some food. When Chihiro saw her parents, she started to tear up, and promised to get her parents out. This was because Haku was helping and protecting Chihiro, so she can go home safely. For example, Haku showed Chihiro her parents, and gave her a card with her name on it. Haku said that Chihiro would need to remember her name, otherwise she could be trapped forever in the spirit world. Then again, Haku was trapped in the spirit world, because he forgot his name. During the adventure, Chihiro had a flashback of her falling in a river, and a dragon saving her. She remembered that it was the Kohaku River, and that Haku’s full name was Kohaku River. This could help Haku in getting out of the spirit world, because he could go to Yubaba and become free, but it is a mystery to never be solved. This means that Chihiro was more hopeful that Haku in getting out of the spirit world. This is how Chihiro was more hopeful that Haku. To sum up, “Spirited Away” is about Chihiro a little girl who is trapped in the spirit world. A river spirit by the name of Haku guided Chihiro in getting back to the human world safely. Using this film, there are some similarities and differences between Chihiro and Haku. They were both brave and caring, but Chihiro was more hopeful than Haku.
