South Korean- US relation begins around 1950s. During the Korean War, U.S support South Korea and fought UN-sponsored side in Korean War. On the last 4 decades South Korea have experienced enormous growth rate on economic, political and military sectors, each decade became less depend from U.S and others countries support. Not only in the political and economic aspects had U.S influenced South Korea, cultural was affect by its presence. In current days, it is common to see a lot of American franchisees and other international brands among the local shops. Furthermore, occidental influence in media, music and television programs can often be found, this is quite different than other countries in central Asia.
South Korea is now a member of non-NATO ally, this position is given by US to countries that have a strategic working relationship with U.S. Armed Forces but are not a member of NATO. In 2012, Barack Obama, formal president, say that South Korea is not only ally to America but now a partner. There are still 30.000 military American personal in South Korea, even with this strong presence in South Korea, US is no longer influence South Korea political decisions, and they still help with economic pact and military support. …show more content…
