I recently read two very interesting poems. The two poems I read were, My Old Kentucky Home by Stephen A. Foster, and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” which is by an unknown author. “My Old Kentucky Home” is about someone thinking about their old home in Kentucky. “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” is about someone waiting to die and be taken to heaven in a chariot. I will compare and contrast the poetic elements in these two poems, more specifically the use of rhyming, tone, and point of view. Rhyming will be the first thing I will take a look at. Both poems use rhymes through the whole poem. In “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” they use the same words for rhyming a lot, for example they use the word home to rhyme six times. “My Old Kentucky Home” is a lot longer
