Revolutions in the early twentieth century occurred in both Mexico (1910-1920) and Russia (1917-1917) that significantly impacted the future of the government within these countries. These countries could no longer stand the oppression upon them from their government leaders. Both countries began fighting against the government desiring an outcome of change in government which would support the working class. Although their reasons for the starts of their revolutions were similar, the method of revolution and the final repercussions in government were different.

The military regime of the dictator Porfirio Diaz was overthrown; Mexico went through a series of leaders before finally settling down around 1920. Mexico continued as a republic form of government even though land, educational, and religious reforms took place. Major political, economic and social reforms were subsequently made within Mexico. Mexico ended the Hacienda system and labor unions and peasant organizations were recognized and promoted. The corruption within Mexico did not completely dissipate, as the PRI party dominated politics through the twentieth century. Mexico recognized that Diaz was the source of their problems and decided that the type of government they followed was adequate. In comparison, Russia’s government underwent extreme change. Their economy changed into an isolated Marxist economy from its former capitalistic global trade economy. Lenin became the virtual dictator of the first Marxist state in the world. Peace was made with Germany, land was distributed, industry was nationalized.
