A comparison between the two drinks indicates that coffee contains relatively higher levels of short acting caffeine. This implies that the consumption of coffee has a greater capacity to increase the heart rate to higher levels than the energy drinks. For athletes, this may be hazardous especially when participating in extraneous activities as it may confer significant a strain on the heart. Undertaking physical activities already increases the heart rate of users and consumption of coffee can only cause a strain. For athletes, energy drinks provide the body with enough boost to engage in the sporting activities. Nonetheless, the pitfall of this beverage is that the ‘boost’ is often followed by a trough. Furthermore, unlike coffee, energy drinks have more credulity. Specifically, the ‘isotonic’ energy drinks are recommendable for exercising (Sinicki, 2016). This is because they contain sugar and salt in ratios that are similar to that of the human body.
