Do you remember learning about Rome in grade school? You would think, “wow Rome was an amazing civilization!” But did you ever consider how similar, but also how different Rome is to modern day America? This essay is going to compare and contrast the Ancient Roman civilization to the modern day America. Because the Modern U.S. and Ancient Rome have many similarities and differences, the lessons from Ancient Rome could help the U.S. to avoid the fall and collapse that Rome experienced.

First off let’s compare the similarities between the civilizations of Ancient Rome and the modern day U.S. My first thought when thinking about comparisons was their money management. One reason I thought of money management was because both civilizations spend money on unreasonable things, other than spending money on things to improve the civilization. One example of this is how the rulers become rulers. In Rome they rule in dynasties (like a monarchy) or they have dictatorships. On the other hand, in America, the people have a say and we get to elect our rulers. Also, our “rulers” don’t have absolute power. Accordingly there are no dictatorships here. Another difference is, Rome had an unbalanced income, while the US citizens pay taxes and things to keep balance. My last difference is the role of woman. In Rome the only thing that women were important for was to feed the men. They couldn’t work, they couldn’t own land, and they didn’t have a say in anything. Although in Modern day America, the role of women isn’t completely equal to the role of men, there is much more equality. For one, woman can vote. Two, they can own land.
