I moved from New York to Colorado and not only did they have a difference in the environment but, in the activities we seek to do in our free time. New York may be a larger city and its beautiful building, but, Colorado offers nice mountains and great trails into these mountains because I have experienced both states personally this is my ethos. In Colorado we can go to the mountains to have some fun such as snowboarding and hiking with some friends. In these few pictures, it shows the differences nevertheless, these two places have their similarities as well. These both show beautiful water and even though one state consists of a big city, both photos show even smaller cities can be appreciated. The audience is for people seeing what is so …show more content…
One of the activities I have seen is hiking in the mountains. Most people do it for the view not so much as the rush or thrill of the whole thing. The hike through the forest is amazing. This wonderful things with hiking is shown by a photo I took from my hike in Glenwood Springs. It shows my friends in it. The trees seem to be almost hugging around him almost making a frame for it. Another exhilarating activity is snowboarding in the winter in Colorado. People go there to glide on the snow and do maneuvers like skateboarders do, but the whole mountain is like their playground and going to the peak, treating the mountains and rocks like obstacles. This is shown by a picture that was taken by one of my friends of a snowboard and ski place in the mountains. It show many kids and even adults, sliding around enjoying the weather. Even though it is very cold, they still like to have fun. Camping is very huge in Colorado especially for families. Camping is a way for people to try to disconnect from their everyday life at home and just see the great outdoors and wildlife that roams around the acres and acres of trees and grass. This is demonstrated by the picture I took on my last camping trip. It shows all the gear and my aunt setting up all the things around this site we rented. As you can see, this picture perfectly shows the disconnection from the average everyday life. By the grill, we have …show more content…
One of their similarities are the types of towns and the beauty of the water that you can find in both states. Estes Park is a nice little town near by the camping site. It has home owned shops and gift shop too. There is a photo of the town with small little shops and many plants growing around the place. Estates Park is just like in New York in a town called Long Beach. The photo of a place in Long Beach has shops and market places. Most of these places I have seen before are home owned crafts. The other similar things in this place are the wonderful and beautiful waters in both areas. In Colorado, there is Stanley Lake which is about a few hours away from where I live. The picture depicts a nice big pool of water shining with the sun. Just like the picture of the beach on Long Beach. It is very beautiful and has the same color and light shining from the water. It also shows a very beautiful and wonderful thing such as the water and the surround of the stuff, such as the trees and grass from Stanley Lake or the beach with sand and the water just grabbing the sand right back to the water. All these things are what makes these two places very similar to each other. These places symbolized a metaphor for beauty the ocean and the lake both water and both so pretty in their own
There are many different types of coasts that exist throughout the United States. The south shore of Long Island has a unique types of coast known as a barrier beach. Barrier beaches are long narrow land forms that are composed of sand and other lose sediments. These sediments are brought together by the actions of waves, currents and storm surges. Barrier beaches are subject to constant changes by the same forces. Sand is constantly eroded in one area an deposited in another. Barrier coasts are important for a number of reasons; they protect the mainland of Long Island from the open ocean and flooding during storms, for recreational use and the unique ecosystems which exist on barrier beaches.
Outside of education, my hobbies have extended the experiences I have developed in Geography. On a recent fieldtrip I investigated the impact of skiing on the landscape at Mont Lozère Ski Resort in the Cévennes, Southern France. I found this research particularly interesting as I could consider my own impact at locations where I have skied. In addition to this, my keen interest in rock climbing has given me the chance to climb outdoors in locations such as the Honister Slate Mine Via Ferrata in the Lake District, reaffirming me of my love of the outdoors and desire to understand the
Colorado was viewed as a place to visit and live in because of the climate, scenery, and promise of good health to its people (Abbott, Leonard, Noel, 2013, pp. 227). Tourism in Colorado has evolved immensely and has helped form Colorado into what it is today. Before anyone could realize Colorado’s potential as being an iconic tourist place, in the 1860s, journalist began to view Colorado differently. They began to notice Colorado’s scenery and they slowly recognized Colorado’s potential for evolution and development through tourists and travelers (Abbott, Leonard, Noel, 2013, pp. 223). Many people sought good health while they were sick and since the journalists really started to see the value of Colorado, they really made its climate stand out and become more appealing to those who were sick, mentioning the great benefits the climate would have on poor health. One-third of the state’s population consisted of people that were once sick (Abbott, Leonard, Noel, 2013, pp.229).
Montana today is place that is still very similar that of a hundred years ago. Ranching and farming out east, mining still goes on in Butte, fishing is big along the western rivers, and now there is a new boom, with oil and natural gas throughout the state. As John Steinbeck said, “I’m in love with Montana. For other states I have admiration, respect, recognition, even some affection. But with Montana it is love. And it’s difficult to analyze love when you’re in it.”
Semaphore is a classic Adelaide beach supporting many facilities. However, this would not be the case if coastal management was not put into progress. Coastal management is a way of supporting the world’s coasts, by using many techniques from construction of structures in which prevents wave energy from reaching the shore to planned strategies. Factors of this includes; rising sea levels, erosion, long and short term drift, sand movement and marine biology. The importance of coastal management is quite significant as it will help to prevent coastal erosion. In addition to this, without coastal management the world will be affect economically, environmentally as well as socially. Without the strategies involving the management of the coast,
The sandy shores of beaches can be considered as a very harsh environment to live in (Ted Klenk, 1999). Survival in such a habitat requires an organism to withstand strong wave and current action, tidal rise and fall, unstable substrate, heavy predation and wide variations in salinity and temperature (The Otter Island Project). Any organism found in this type of harsh environment is specialized and highly adapted (The Otter Island Project).
The Wilderness inquiry is an example of a modern program that integrates its participants for outdoor adventures. Their Mission Statement goes as follows: "Through the medium of outdoor adventures, Wilderness Inquiry provides opportunities that integrate people in experiences that inspire personal growth and enhance awareness of the natural environment. The underlying purpose of Wilderness Inquiry is to provide positive experiences that reduce stereotypes and empower people to push their perceived limitations" (www.wildernessinquiry.com). They offer adventurous activities such as Kayaking in Lake Superior or Dog sledding in the Superior National Forest of Minnesota. Most of the participants get involved because of the high adventure type of activities that are offered. The people that choose to participate commonly show that they want to ...
The Sandy Beach The sandy beach and surf zones are two environments, which are usually found along the edges of the sea. The sandy shore environment is made up of sand and grains of rock and crushed shells while the surf zone environment is made up mainly of water. Although the sandy beach zone is said to be one of the most common environments along the shore, it is considered a very harsh and dynamic environment. Sandy beach shores usually have very harsh physical conditions. The constant sand movement presents a problem for living organisms.
First of all, I want to talk about leisure activities that society offers us play and condition by it. From the novel, Brave New World, when D.H.C explains to his student about the achievement of their society, “It was decided to abolish the love of nature…‘but simultaneously we condition them to l...
There are some similarities between the two, also. It all depends on what one likes. If people likes the sun and crowds, the beach is definitely for them. If people likes the calm and laid back life, the mountains is definitely for them. Teenagers and young adults mostly go to the beach, while retired and elderly go to the mountains. The laid back life and the high life is two totally opposite things and it just depends on the kind of person someone is to where they choose to go to vacation too, the mountains or the beach. One 's personality says a lot about where they would choose to go, too Whichever one a person chooses rather it be the beach or the mountains, they picked two great vacation sites to choose
My main reason for having such a strong urge to move to a city like New York is the variety of entertainment such a city offers, such as shopping, unique eateries, and shows like concerts and musicals. During my stay in New York, I was s...
Every summer my dad, brother, and I go camping at least twice a month. We don’t have a set camp ground we go to, we just love camping on warm summer days and we bring our little fishing boat to the lake and ride the cool calm water. We would set the boat with our anchor, cast our fishing rods, and relax while catching so many whiskered catfish. We have been doing this for a few years since we moved here from Massachusetts. The lakes are large with not a lot of people around, which is nice and relaxing since some people are loud and obnoxious. The lakes are surrounded by tall trees, glittering beaches and old hiking bridges. My favorite part is the smell of the burning campfires and smoky food we have, and it is a great getaway from people. Camping is my favorite thing to do with my family, no matter when or where it may be.
Although the experience of backpacking can be uniquely amazing, it has always been criticized from the mainstream; some host countries and other travellers may disagree with the actions of backpackers and sometimes backpacking is even considered as “Hippie” (O’Reilly) often because backpackers haven’t contributed enough economically as regular tourists and that they are performing a different way of living than the average one. I believe that everyone’s purpose in life is different. The truth is people nowadays are too indulge in the classic middle-class lifestyle that the mainstream has instilled in us, a nice house, a decent job, fancy cars. The thoughts of being like everybody else makes people feel safe, but the point is that is being safe really the goal of our lives. In one of the New York best seller books “ Into the wild “, Christopher McCandless, the main character who died in the Alaska in real life, once indicated that “The freedom and simple beauty is too good to pass up.” Sometimes we think we need more than we actually need. In the real life, people rarely appreciate simple beauty, and always go after those physical things that everyone desires. But after we peel off the fancy coat of that comfortable middle-class lifestyle, all there is left is a greedy heart which is too afraid to change. Sometimes mainstream is not always correct because the society we live in is extremely judgemental.
People from all over the world go to beautiful beaches that are filled with water as clear as ice or as beautiful as diamonds. But, what will happen if we do not conserve the appealing sites that draw attraction to the public? Contaminated beaches has become a controversial issue to the public because of the causal problem, the harm to the people and marine animals, the government agencies supporting or opposing pollution, and the industries involved in creating such unlawful decisions. To create and find a solution, we must first find the core to the problem.
Environmental education has origins that date back to 1900’s as nature studies submerged participants in understanding wild places and the plants or animals that are found outside (Krasny and Monroe, 2015). As humans made greater impacts on the land and new environmental problems were created, the concept of environmental education changed in response to these new conditions. Often, audiences experienced nature by traveling outside communities to stereotypic wild lands. Recently, urban environmental education surfaced as a new approach to sharing nature with audiences--helping create meaningful experiences in nature by finding a greater value in urban areas as natural areas (Russ, 2015). There are many similarities and differences between the
