Serving with College Advising Corps interest me for many reasons. For instance, I am the result of a top advisor at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) called Cinthia Spruill. When I arrived in Rhode Island, I did not possess the language proficiency, did not know the American education system, but knew I wanted to learn and obtain a degree. Needless to say, to accomplish such things without the correct support, was going to be impossible. Nonetheless, as if the universe was working in my favor, I met my best friend Luis Decamps at the Community College of Rhode Island, and he introduced me to a program called ACCESS, which is a program that provides the student with all they need to succeed in college and beyond. To illustrate, I am an immigrant, and this August it will be my 6th anniversary since I moved to Rhode Island. During this six years, I have managed to learn a new language, graduate CCRI and URI, and work. Also, I come from a low-income family. In other words, I will be able to relate and motivate the community I will serve with The College Advising Corps. Furthermore, I am a team player, follow structure, flexible and able to work under pressure. Something that makes me the perfect candidate for the position is my years of experience working with teenagers and young adults through the church I sever. Often, I find myself engaging with the youth and giving them advice about school, career choice, and time management to accomplish their goals. Lastly, I would love to serve in this position because it will be beneficial for me professionally. It is not often one gets the opportunity to experience and develop new skills in counseling. As an individual, this position will allow me to enjoy the satisfaction of helping others, foster personal growth, and will enable me to meet new people with similar background and life
