Serving with College Advising Corps interest me for many reasons. For instance, I am the result of a top advisor at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) called Cinthia Spruill. When I arrived in Rhode Island, I did not possess the language proficiency, did not know the American education system, but knew I wanted to learn and obtain a degree. Needless to say, to accomplish such things without the correct support, was going to be impossible. Nonetheless, as if the universe was working in my favor, I met my best friend Luis Decamps at the Community College of Rhode Island, and he introduced me to a program called ACCESS, which is a program that provides the student with all they need to succeed in college and beyond. To illustrate, I am an immigrant, and this August it will be my 6th anniversary since I moved to Rhode Island. During this six years, I have managed to learn a new language, graduate CCRI and URI, and work. Also, I come from a low-income family. In other words, I will be able to relate and motivate the community I will serve with The College Advising Corps. Furthermore, I am a team player, follow structure, flexible and able to work under pressure. Something that makes me the perfect candidate for the position is my years of experience working with teenagers and young adults through the church I sever. Often, I find myself engaging with the youth and giving them advice about school, career choice, and time management to accomplish their goals. Lastly, I would love to serve in this position because it will be beneficial for me professionally. It is not often one gets the opportunity to experience and develop new skills in counseling. As an individual, this position will allow me to enjoy the satisfaction of helping others, foster personal growth, and will enable me to meet new people with similar background and life
Working for the Clark College Foundation has given me valuable job experience and I now that I have a better understanding about the kind of tasks that may be required of me in the future. Someday when I do reach my goal of becoming an administrative assistant I hope to apply some of the things that I have learned from this experience to my future career.
I am a cocoon still on the verge of transformation. In order for me to transform myself into something beautiful, there are many processes and steps that need to play a part. NJ LEEP’s College Bound Program can help me improve the person I am regarding work ethic, creativity, articulation, etc. Due to this program, I will obtain a greater understanding on how to manage my time wisely, think in a different way from other people, and speak in an elegant way. In addition, it can help me gain more knowledge and have a greater understanding in life. I am able to acquire life experiences, as well. I realized that through my five years in Harrison, I had not been introduced to the actual world. I am in an enclosed, giant bubble called Harrison. Due to this, I never had the opportunity to experience how the real world is and meet new people unless I make changes into my life. Harrison might not be able to offer me many chances. However, NJ LEEP will. Nonetheless, this program will allow me to overcome multiple fears that I could never been able to overcome before, such as public speaking. NJ LEEP is only my first step to achieve greatness and success.
My goal to be a Teach For America corps member was instigated by my family background and experiences in the Waco community as a volunteer tutor. My aunt, who taught high school English in a low-income community in Michigan for over 30 years, has inspired me to teach in order to fight against the inequalities facing low-income students. Her commitment to nurturing and developing students, regardless of the circumstances they were facing, led me to pursue service opportunities in Waco that would allow me to emulate her. Specifically, volunteering at an elementary school in the center of Waco gave me the chance to work and grow with the type of students that my aunt dedicated her life to. In continuing her efforts, I want to help counteract the education inequalities facing our nation.
I have wanted to be a counselor since my freshmen year of high school and in the counseling field there are many specialties that I can focus on. I am fairly certain that I want to specialize in helping people with substance abuse and their families. I have always focused my studies, interests, and work on things that will help me in this field and I have a lot of qualities that help to enhance me in my eventual career. There are difficulties when I get to practice also like what people perceive as correct counseling style, challenges with my gender and race, and finally creating my own counseling style and plans.
Being a Bunker Hill Community College full time student is not that easy unless you are associated with all the useful and valuable sources provided all over the school. As I seamlessly moving to complete my associate degree at Bunker Hill, I was so anxious to participate and explore new things in the new college world which I cannot experience it at my own country. The Exploratory Advising Center supports students wishing to utilize their freshman year exploring the 140 majors offered at Auburn. Students may apply as Exploratory and spend up to two semesters determining the ideal major for their academic and professional goals. The Exploratory Advising Center employs advisors and counselors who provide intensive and personalized support facilitated through UNIV 1150, a two credit hour course. The goal of the Exploratory Advising Center is to ensure Auburn students choose a major with confidence and remain on track to graduate in four years.

She expressed the honor and privilege it is to pour into the lives of young ones especially those lost and trouble. LaToya emphasized how sometimes you are not playing the guidance counselor but their mommies, which really highlighted the compassion and genuine caring concern for her students. Which provided me with the reminder that your career pathway should not rely on socioeconomic factors but more of a view of where our heart and intentions lie. Additionally, we discussed her schooling experience while pursuing her master’s degree, she had self-doubt with questioning her abilities just myself, however, what eradicated the negativity is experience gained through interning as well as faith. We closed with words of empowerment and motivation instilled in me to further continued education for master’s degree and licensure just as herself. I am the best candidate for juvenile probation officer because I've had extensive experience with juveniles in difficult situations. I have been a paramedic transporting 15 year olds who have just been involved in suicide attempts. I rode with them for more than an hour and discussed their situations with them. I interacted with their parents. The same applies to my experience with Children's Protective Services. I have been able to cope with irate parents and angry and rebellious teenagers. The skill I believe is most important to college success is the ability to bounce back; resilience. Though it’s not a physical skill, it’s something that can be practiced and learned and improved, so, in my opinion, it can justifiably be considered a skill. College is full of challenges, and not all of them are easily conquered. A person’s resilience allows them to see these obstacles in a different light, recognize how that error could have been avoided, and use that insight to be more successful next time.
After seeing your advertisement for a student intern at the Luther College Career Center, I am interested in assisting in executing public affairs, drafting communication materials and supporting the senior team members in any way I can at Schmidt Public Affairs.
