Movies often portray unrealistic characteristics of high schoolers, and as children, we grow up and believe that we have to be or look a certain way in order to achieve success during those four years before we graduate. Like many with a developing mind, I was ecstatic to be like those beautiful models roaming the halls and greeting everyone with a smile; however, I had a bigger goal in mind; I yearned to be a those girls who kept the crowd alive during Friday nights. On my journey to my current position, I went through various challenges that shaped me and define who I am today. If a mouse were to scurry along one’s floor, the slightest “squeak” would be heard; nonetheless, unless the person was looking directly at the floor, the person would not notice the minuscule rodent. Consequently, if I were to stroll down the school corridor, my five foot body would be disregarded. Because of this, no one expected me to pursue a sport whose sole purpose was to holler and jump around like a hare. Nonetheless, when I was eligible to try out, I left the judges astounded as my motions resembled those of a dagger and my cheers were coherently projected, all while flashing a smile. Although words rarely escaped my mouth, my keen eyesight served an aid to view the squad’s current situation. Typically, the captain maintains the squad united while enforcing rules to keep the girls from conflict; however, the girl who held this position at the time behaved like a fascist dictator. I failed to communicate my concerns as she ignored the other members’ ideas and comments.
