Ever since I was a young girl I have had two passions, music and education. I grew up in a family musically talented, so the passion for music was inevitable. On the other hand, my passion for education was instilled in me through my grandmother. She always said “you are never too old to learn; you can learn something new every day.” This statement alone is what drove me in my educational journey. My first educational love was math. Math is what combined my passion for education and music into one. In middle school I chose band as my elective. This is where I learned that math is the center of music; rhyme, rhythm, meter is all based on math. When I couldn’t figure out a math problem I turned to music and when I couldn’t understand the scoresheet in front of me I turned to math. In the 8th grade I was accepted into the Wake Early College of Health and Science program. In May I will be graduating with a high school diploma, both my associate in arts and associate in science degree, and my phlebotomy certification. While maintaining this heavy work load, I have two jobs, I volunteer, and participate in extracurricular activities such as the dance team and worship team at my church. My relentless but goal-oriented attitude to strive for nothing but greatness sired me a spot on the dean’s list for the fall of 2016.
