The process of choosing a school is an exciting time, as you consider where and how you want to live. As I’ve gone through this process, one of the challenging aspects has been determining what areas I am most likely to study and perhaps pursue as a career. Throughout my school years, I have always strived not only to succeed in all classes, but also to obtain knowledge in a variety of areas. I have enjoyed learning Spanish, debating U.S History, reading and evaluating literature. However, over the past year, as I’ve considered my future education, it has become clear I am most interested in focused academic study in areas of sciences and engineering, with particular interest in practical application of these studies—which I believe makes Worcester Polytechnical Institute a perfect place for me. …show more content…

For example, as I selected courses for my senior, I developed a demanding schedule, taking AP Calculus and Chemistry, and even taking a challenging online forensics course as an elective. Friends, who have taken a more “relaxed” approach to their senior year, asked me why I want to work so hard. At this point, it is not to simply keep up with other highly-ranked students or provide an impressive transcript to schools. Rather, I enjoy learning about these areas and how they may be applied in the real world. I also find myself pursuing these areas outside the classroom.
