All of my life I have lived in a very small town of under 700 people. My school holds students from pre-school to twelfth grade all in the same building. My graduating class is thirty- eight students with most of us being in the same classes since pre-school. I love my small hometown, but I’m ready for some place bigger than 700 people. The University of Wisconsin La Crosse gives me this opportunity by getting to meet new people around campus. It’s also exciting to me that in every class there are new people, and I’m ready for a challenge of going to a larger school with thousands of students not just hundreds. Since I am from such a small school, as a leader, I have been in many different activities and sports. When I go to college, I would like continue this in college. In such a small school, we are in as many activities that we can handle along with upper class and concurrent and PSEO courses. My academics come first, and I am very focused on my school work. UW La Crosse is a very competitive school in academics, and that makes me love the University even more. Academics is my thriving spot, and I enjoy being challenged in the classroom especially in math and science. I plan on majoring in accounting, and I enjoy being challenged in math classes especially. Being challenged is one of the main reasons that I take multiple college courses during high school online and in my high school. I look forward to all of the new classes that I can take through UW La Crosse like General Chemistry I (103) or Fundamental Physics I (103) in the new science building. I am very interested in attending Flagler College for a number of reasons, Flagler is the perfect college to help my achieve my goals. It offers the individual help that I desire, an outstanding business program, a wide variety of clubs and organizations, and most important, Flagler opens up a lot of opportunities for career choices.
One of my good friends, she graduated from Temecula Preparatory School recently. She has been at this school since kindergarten and she hates the mere idea of a large school. In conclusion, I was fortunate enough to understand many important things in life. One of those things is that we do not always begin at the desired start line, but through effort and strong will we can arrive at the desired finish line, where the outcome of our plans and goals reside. In my pursuit of education, I faced many challenges and hardships, but I always viewed them as temporary setbacks not as a finish line. I am certain that an opportunity to study at the UW would help me reach my finish line.
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
The election night of 2000 was a pivotal moment in my life. I stayed up all night on November 7th, 2000, not because I was enthralled with watching Florida flip-flop between Gore and Bush, but because I had an IV in my arm which made it impossible to be comfortable. Earlier that evening, I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, a disease affecting 1 of 800 people in America. This was an especially crucial time in my life, considering I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis—an autoimmune disease that attacks the GI track in 1 of 1400 Americans—the June before, and I had my Bar-Mitzvah in September. According to the Jewish religion, I had become an adult, and as such, I had decided to greet my new medical challenges with gusto, attempting to see the silver lining from the very beginning. I cannot say that I am glad I was nature’s statistical anomaly, but I am thankful for the opportunity to see from a young age how to turn a tough situation into a positive. After almost nine years, I come back to this pivotal night in my life because it marked a change that still plays a part in my life now, and will continue to shape me in the future.
College Admissions Essay If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there.
My main goal while attending Baylor would be to achieve the best education possible and improve myself as a person, as well as grow stronger in my faith. I am looking to become a Pre-Nursing student and I have heard that Baylor contains one of the best medical programs in this area, prompting it to be on the top of my list of potential colleges. One of the main reasons i was drawn to Baylor is it’s strong Baptist roots. I am a strong Christian and I strive to be the salt and light of the world, as Jesus called us to be. I see great potential for Baylor to help me grow in my faith while also preparing me for my future career.
At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
The experience of the APEC Youth Science festival was incredible. It has had an enormous impact on me in many ways, changing the way I look at the world and connecting me with people and events far beyond my formerly limited experience. I am extremely glad to have had this opportunity. It was a wonderful experience on multiple levels. It challenged me and expanded me intellectually and socially. I feel that this experience has had an immense impact on me.
I’ve always been the type of person that truly enjoys athletics and have participated in nearly all sports offered to me. I started playing sports in elementary with club softball and basketball. As I entered my middle and high school years I was able to add the school sanctioned sports to my list of activities. This afforded me the opportunity of competing in volleyball, basketball, golf, track and softball. The camaraderie and life lessons of sports seemed invaluable to me.
The fact that the University of Richmond has small, faculty-led classes really hits home for me. I go to a DoDDS high school on a military base in Southern Spain and as of right now, my graduating class consists of 39 people, including myself. Over the years I’ve found that I’m actually more likely to understand the material and connect with the teacher in classes that have less students, which, to me, is an essential part of my education. On the other hand, because it’s a small school I’ve always felt like there weren’t enough opportunities for me. Whether it was a class I wanted to take or a club or sport I wanted to participate in, many times there weren’t enough students who signed up for them, so they never got picked up. If I went to
I want to study a lot more than I do know for high school classes. I want to keep to a schedule and sometimes break the schedule and meet new people with football, work, or even study tables. School has always come easy to me. I never have needed to study for a hard test and I don’t want college to be a shocker. I want to actually earn the A. It’s easy to settle for a B at Riverside. If you want an A you have to try a little harder though. The schedule will be followed when I attend Peru and create my class schedule. I want to be able to stay healthy I want to get back to lifting regularly. I want to study my playbook, as much as I need to study for my classes. I want to still have free-time to spend with new friends. I want to support the Bobcats at volleyball, basketball, and softball games. I guess what my goal is, is attend Peru graduate, have better time management, become a better student, and be a great person in my career. I want to be a great leader and role model to others who see me. I want to get a job in Omaha and come back to Riverside and on Friday nights care for the young men batting with their buddies. In college, I will also be exposed to new clubs and activities. I feel that club and after school activities can make a person more involved and give a person the right qualities to become a leader. I 'm involved in numerous extracurricular activities that will help me achieve my goals. For example, I am the current treasurer of (FBLA) The Future Business Leaders of America, Member of (DECA) it 's an international association for marketing that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in finance, hospitality and management. Additionally, I am an active member with Upstanders, a club that stands up against bullying and hate; (ASA) The African Student Association and the National Art Honor Society. Although money isn’t everything, being financially secure is very important. Money can’t buy love or happiness, but it makes life easier knowing you have a house to go home to, food in your fridge, and clothes to put on your back. My family had a hard time when I was growing up with making ends meet and I want to make sure that I do everything in my power to keep that from happening to my future family. If I apply myself in college and strive for knowledge, I will have the potential to become very adept in my field which will help me achieve my goal of financial stability because I’ll be able to keep a job. I also hope for my future that I stay open to new experiences, whatever the world may throw at me. I want to be able to travel and see new cultures, societies, and people. Hand-in-hand with traveling, I would love to volunteer all over the world, as well.
