The codes of chivalry that are displayed by king Arthur’s knights seem to be hard to find in today’s society. Social and new media are full of stories of hate, crime, stupidity and selfishness. More people should have personal codes or values that they follow. My code of chivalry or personal values are: to be honest, be respectful and have a good work ethic. I believe that by following these codes, to the best of my ability, I will live a happy life with fewer problems. Honesty is one of my codes or values that I try to live by. Being honest is one of the most beneficial codes that will help me succeed. I tell people the truth because I think it matters a lot. If my dad, teacher or friend ask me something, I am going to tell them the truth, I have no reason to lie. If I am not honest and tell a lie, that lie is just one more thing that I have to try to remember. This will have a snowball effect on future conversations. For example, if Mrs. Evard were to ask me a question and instead of being honest I told her a lie, I would have to remember the lie that I told her the first time, so that the lies match. I need to give respect first to someone to expect it back in return. I think of respect as one of the things you need to be successful. If I do not treat my superiors with respect, they are going to think that I am not someone that they want to move up in their company and work with. I do not think that respect is something that you choose to give to certain people. Respect is something that every person deserves, whether I like them or not. For example, I have been by people that I don’t necessary prefer to be around, I don’t want to be mean to them but I still treat them with respect.
