“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” Buddy the Elf’s quote rang true at the Runk and Pratt Senior Living Communities Christmas Celebration. With a group of eagle scholar freshman and sophomores, a bingo and craft event was held on a Sunday afternoon .
After arriving in the prayer chapel, the room had to be rearranged in order to best fit the patrons and activities of the event. We worked to change the seating and make most areas around the tables wheelchair accessible. After setting up the bingo tables and cards, natural delegation began within the group. After receiving the schedule of events for the day, different scholars identified their strengths, as music students went off to search and prepare to play and sing carols. Pratt, the mother of the founder of the home. At first, she was extremely concerned with the procedures of the bingo, but we were also able to begin to talk about her life and her son, mostly. After the game started, a hush fell over the event as people concentrated on their boards. Winners were given candy canes or other festive treats! We then transitioned to a Christmas themed word search made by the organizers of the event. Though my new friend was quick to inform me and loath to let me forget her dislike of word searches, we were able to search for words together and bond in an unusual way. She began commenting on how appreciative she was to have us come in, to get visitors. I overheard other ladies at other tables as I began distributing pieces of craft materials comment on their utter loneliness. After hearing a student’s optimistic remark about the happiness of the holiday season, a senior lady responded that it was a season of great sadness if you were all
