Put an End to Child Beauty Pageants All forms of beauty pageants have been around for quite some time now but child beauty pageants should not be taken lightly. Some girls may say they like being in these pageants but do they really mean it? Child beauty pageants are harmful to participant’s psychological health; they harm family relationships, sexualize children and damage the physical health of a child as well. Child beauty pageants started in the 1960’s. These pageants consist of modeling sportswear, evening dresses, and doing dance and talent. Because they are always being put into these pageants that are constantly taking up their time they don’t get to do the normal kid things like playing with friends, having sleepovers, or even have normal family time. If the pageants the girls are competing in aren’t ever at home they are spending the majority of their time in hotels, putting a huge financial strain on family members. Just to be able to compete in the pageant the entry fee is a ridiculous amount of money then you have to add in the big glitzy dresses, the cost to get to the pageant, the coaching for the girls, and all the make-up procedures make for one big bill causing a huge disagreement in parents. Almost 19 years ago a little girl from Boulder, Colorado who was a part of these pageants was murdered on Christmas day. JonBenet Ramsey was only six years old when she was found in the basement of her home beaten and strangled to death. The case of this poor little girl has yet to be solved to this day. These pageants can lead to parents fighting because they thought that their kid should have won over the others and due to the resent of another parents child winning could lead to some going crazy and murdering innocent kids that may not have even wanted to be in the pageant to begin
