Health is defined as the state of being free from illness or injury. However, health focuses on more than just the physical being. Health has six important components, such as the following: environmental, social, physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental. With this being said, to attain health in its totality, it is important one maintain a balance in all aspects of health. However, going through daily life experiences can affect us human beings in all ways or more in one way than the other. In Health 4073 we have discussed all components of health as I mentioned above. One particular component that stands out to me personally is environmental. The environmental component of health refers to a person’s surroundings, the kind of area he or The manuscript entails a young African American boy, named Joey, who endures external struggles of change due to his environment, and as a result, acts accordingly to the new circumstances. While Joey endured many negative transitions (for him perceptively), such as, being bullied and disliked by one of his teachers, one particular one that I relate to stood out most. This new change for Joey is his mother divorcing her father for one, and two, bringing another man in the home, who is now considered to be his stepfather. Due to being out of his comfort zone Joey creates trouble for himself. He starts to fail academically and acts as any child may act when he or she realizes his or her parents are separated and there is no room for redemption of the relationship. I am convinced that Joey’s environment plays a major role in the cause and effect of his rebellious behavior because when one is accustomed to a certain environment he or she does not know how to react to a new one. I correspond to Joey’s way of coping in this situation because I am a firm believer of allowing people to deal with encounters how he or she feels necessary to. Also, I can personally relate to this story because I have stepparents on both sides of my mother and father. In regards to my situation I grew up bitter because it was my stepfather giving me chores around the house and disciplining rather than my biological father, so I can relate. This particular story relates to planning because in life we plan for certain things, sometimes things we have no control over. When Joey’s mother got remarried, I am sure she did not expect that to happen. Therefore, she could not plan to fall in love with another man after divorcing her husband. However, ensuring this other man was worthy to be introduced and be around her son I am sure takes thorough planning and thought.
