For nearly three decades, the public school system has offered a single size fits all approach to educating American’s children. In the year 2012- 2013, though several 3.1 public high school students or 81 percent, graduated on time (Public High School Graduation Rates), how many students in that number truly gain the full education. Nowadays, education is necessary, which becomes a controversial issue between parents and the school. Either Charter or Public school encourages the development or improvement of the educational system to our young, beloved children. There are further charters out there which children can stay home, however, still learn enormous things. “Lottery” documentary film is about the controversy between public and charter schools, which tells the stories of four families who tried to find a better educational
“Many charter schools segregate students along the racial and class lines and that they may also tend to lack services for students with disabilities or limited English proficiency, which leads to less diversity in Charter schools. Charter schools have their own school boards and are typically free to experiment with instructional and disciplinary methods, Charter schools are privately run by boards that are appointed by charter organizations rather the public which means less local accountability and
Are charter schools the right choice to the educational needs of our children? Charter schools are tuition free public schools created and operated by parents, organizations, and community groups to fill student’s educational needs. Charter schools consider educating their students as the priority, and identify how children’s learning needs are different from each other, so they came up with different ways on educating their students such as learning in small groups, or by participating in hands on learning. Along with their unique programs such as art, math, and science, charter schools are also the stronger academic choice for students. Parents should consider charter schools for their children’s education. “Charter schools are independent public schools allowed to innovate while being held accountable for improving student achievements” (Edie, 2012, p.1). Charter schools are the best choice for a child’s education.
The biggest difference between charter schools and public schools is that the charter schools have their own operating system, foundation and teachers. (Ravitch, Reign of Error, chapter 16, p157-160) There also are some disadvantages in charter schools, first is the quality gap, due to the quality of teaching which almost depends on teachers and principals. The second one is differentiation between races and classes. Some charter schools’ mission is to serve minorities, such as African-Americans and Hispanics, because they want to save the nations’ culture.

Charter schools are public schools of choice, meaning that families choose them for their children. They operate with freedom from some of the regulations that are imposed upon school districts. Charter schools are accountable for academic results and upholding the promises made in their charters.
Charter schools are public schools, but can be a better option than traditional public schools for some students. By definition, a charter school is a publicly funded and privately run school under the charter of an educational authority. (2-4) A charter school is held to a different set of standards than most traditional public schools. This can often work towards their advantage because it allows them to try new and unique methods of educating children. And the education system could use some fresh ideas.
Charter schools are publicly funded, privately run schools, created in an attempt provide an alternative to America’s failing public school system. They are often referred to as ‘public schools of choice,’ and enable parents to have variety when it comes to their child’s education without having to pay tuition. Charter schools have more freedom when it comes to curriculum and teaching styles and may be run by non-profits, universities, and government entities. Proponents of charter schools argue that competition and variety in the school system will lead to an overall increase in quality; charter schools are supposed to promote innovative teaching solutions to the problems experienced in regular public schools. Opponents argue that capitalism
Opponents of charter school expansion claim that “every time a new charter school opens or expands, it takes funding away from the public schools in that district” (Galvin, 2016). Students who attend charter schools take public funding with them. Critics of this law fear that this could costs local public school districts more than one billion dollars a year. Opponents of the law argue for fixing public school that are falling apart, rather than taking money away from them in favor of “privately-run charters” (Galvin, 2016).
Charter Schools: Pros and Cons The success of students may not depend on school’s governance model, but rather families that nurture their children’s academic ambitions, teachers who inspire the children to excel, school management that creates a positive and learning-friendly environment, and communities that value education. All these factors affect the academic outcomes in the same way, regardless of whether the student is in the private, charter or traditional public school. However, while traditional public and private schools have been in existence, someone may get curious as to why charter schools are on the rise in various countries. Considering the advantages and disadvantages of charter schools will assist parents, educators, and
Because each school is technically its own district, each school is run with only that school and those particular students in mind. This independence of the school can mean a multitude of things, but one specific example that I personally experienced was the school being able to have their own calendar and we were able to have a year-round program as opposed to a more traditional schedule. The independence of how the school was run also meant that we, as students, had more access and visibility to our school’s government. We, as students, could go to board meetings and bring up concerns we had with the system in place and were actually listened to. The type of change we could make as students in a charter school was a considerable amount more than that we could have made as students in a public school with a larger district, and our voices were able to be heard
I believe that the purpose of education is to produce the next generation of leaders who are intelligent and have great character. This idea is supported in the article “The Purpose of Education” by Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist who fought for black and white people to have equal rights in America. He writes about the true purpose, and meaning of education in the article by saying, “Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction (MLK1).” This quote from the article explains that being academically educated is very important. It will help people stand up, be a leader, and take charge to make the world a better place for everyone. That gallant leader will argue against the fallacy, lies,
Technology forms the most vital element of life in the world today. Every aspect of our lives is dominated by technology and its importance in our lives is indispensable. One of the outstanding facts about technology use in schools is its controversial nature. There is no common agreement by stakeholders in technology and educations sectors about the use of technology in schools. There are two different factions, one supporting use of technology as a positive aspect, while the other faction disagrees, citing the detrimental effects of technology in students. However, the use of technology in classrooms catering for children continues to increase, as education develops more interesting ways of enhan...
