The Drunken Botanist

The Drunken Botanist: The Plants that Create the World's Great Drinks by Amy Stewart is an extraordinary encyclopedia that gives the reader insight as to how plants are connected to alcohol beverages and which species, specifically, that are used to make drinks that are popular around the globe with such examples as wine, tequila and vodka. Stewart also goes further on to elaborate as to how these ingredients are implemented in the process that is used in making the alcoholic drinks, such as fermentation and distillation. In addition, Stewart also covers the process and which specific plants are used to flavor the spirits and all of the mechanics and steps that go into creating liquor and alcoholic beverages.
Amy Stewart is quite accomplished and acknowledged. Stewart graduated from Arlington High School and received a B.A. degree in anthropology and a master's in community and regional planning from the University of Texas at Austin. After she graduated, Steward moved to Santa Monica in California, where she took up the hobby of gardening. That was her inspiration for the first book “From the Ground Up: The Story of a First Garden” in 2001. She is an author of “Flower Confidential: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful”, “Wicked Plants: The Weed That Killed Lincoln's Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities” which was on New York Times bestseller list in 2009, and “Wicked Bugs: The Louse That Conquered Napoleon's Army & Other Diabolical Insects” in 2011. For “Drunken Botanist” she received an International Association of Culinary Professionals Judge's Award in 2014. I am very impressed with her work and how well accepted and acclaimed that it is.
Throughout the book, the reader...

I applaud Stewart for the creation of this book. Millions, I am sure, will find this book necessary for their social life after reading it once, not only as a recipe guide but also conversation stimulator. It was a pleasure to read due to the relativity to a huge facet of our history and society. Also, it was great to learn about the different biological processes that went into the process of making such everyday items such as fermenting, distilling, and even growing plants. This book is something that everyone can find interest in. I would highly recommend this book to others and will definitely use it again.
