Case management and therapy are to services that work together for the good of the individual. Case management is not therapy and therapy is not case management. Case management is used to help individuals determine a plan of action and monitor that the plan of action is effective. What case managers do is therapeutic in the sense that it benefits the individual. (Summer, n.d.) Therapy can be a service that is part of the action plan, provided by a professional with years of training and studying that provides treatment to help relieve or heal the individual that is being referred by the case manager. There are three levels of case; administrative, resource coordination, and intensive all of which can involve therapy. Administrative case It involves individuals that need a lot of supervision, support and assistance. A case manager at this level would have smaller case loads, so that they could give more individual attention to the client. These individuals remain in the community. The case manager’s job is then to make an action plan with the individual that would help to elevate circumstances that would make issues worse. Individuals at this level have a higher risk of repeated emergencies, and intensive involvement. The case manager at this level would usually be available to the individual twenty-four hours a day or have a support network available to the individual so that if a situation does come then they are not high risk. Case workers at this level would provide help if the client runs out of meds or is involved in a situation in their home that would trigger stress and relapse for example. A situation that could occur would be if the case manager gets a call in the middle of the night that the individual has been taken to the emergency room due to suicidal thought from a situation that occurred at their home. The case manager would then go to the hospital to help arrange an action plan with the individual and hospital to get the individual, in patient treatment and support
