Case management and therapy are to services that work together for the good of the individual. Case management is not therapy and therapy is not case management. Case management is used to help individuals determine a plan of action and monitor that the plan of action is effective. What case managers do is therapeutic in the sense that it benefits the individual. (Summer, n.d.) Therapy can be a service that is part of the action plan, provided by a professional with years of training and studying that provides treatment to help relieve or heal the individual that is being referred by the case manager. There are three levels of case; administrative, resource coordination, and intensive all of which can involve therapy. Administrative case It involves individuals that need a lot of supervision, support and assistance. A case manager at this level would have smaller case loads, so that they could give more individual attention to the client. These individuals remain in the community. The case manager’s job is then to make an action plan with the individual that would help to elevate circumstances that would make issues worse. Individuals at this level have a higher risk of repeated emergencies, and intensive involvement. The case manager at this level would usually be available to the individual twenty-four hours a day or have a support network available to the individual so that if a situation does come then they are not high risk. Case workers at this level would provide help if the client runs out of meds or is involved in a situation in their home that would trigger stress and relapse for example. A situation that could occur would be if the case manager gets a call in the middle of the night that the individual has been taken to the emergency room due to suicidal thought from a situation that occurred at their home. The case manager would then go to the hospital to help arrange an action plan with the individual and hospital to get the individual, in patient treatment and support

... By scheduling an activity that the client can participate in and complete, it can give them a sense of mastery in a specific task. This can be beneficial for the client to feel accomplished. Another technique that I feel can be beneficial in therapy is role-playing. Role-playing can be helpful for a client to learn how to dispute irrational beliefs by becoming aware of negative feelings towards theses beliefs (Tan, 2011). In addition, role-playing can help the client to overcome their emotions and practice coping skills that are more effective. The last technique I would incorporate into therapy would be relaxation training. I would suggest ways that can help the client relax including, deep breathing, meditation, yoga, a massage or exercising. By getting the client to have methods to relax, I think it can help with managing their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Case conceptualization and treatment planning is used by therapist to assist in determining a client’s diagnosis, goals, and treatment plan that is most effective in determining the issues surrounding the clients diagnosis. It is crucial that the client’s treatment plan is specific to the individual, is relational and appropriate to the needs of the client.
Case conceptualization explains the nature of a client’s problem and how they develop such problem ( Hersen, & Porzelius, p.3, 2002) In counseling, assessment is viewed as a systematic gathering of information to address a client’s presenting concerns effectively. The assessment practice provides diagnostic formulation and counseling plans, and aids to identify assets that could help the client cope better with concern that they are current. Assessment is present as a guide for treatment and support in the “evaluation process. Although many methods can be employed to promote a thorough assessment, no one method should be used by itself” (Erford, 2010, p.269-270). Eventually, it is the counselor's job to gain adequate information concerning the client and the client's presenting concerns to establish an effective treatment strategy. Using a combination of assessment techniques increases the likelihood of positive interventions and promotes successful treatment (Erford, 2010, p.271). A case conceptualization reflects how the professional counselor understands the nature of the presenting problems and includes a diagnostic formulation. Case conceptualization organizes assessment data into meaningful outline, applying research, and theory to make sense of client’s current problem.
Next steps of the plan would be to do a more comprehensive assessment with the client. Review recommendations, and put the plan in action. After carefully reviewing the plan with the client, the case manager can establish a review date with the care planning team. The care planning team would meet with the client to see if the goals were met, if more time is needed for the goals to be completed, or if there are any changes to be made to the treatment
I have gained great insight into the roles of services that help people going through a crisis. I work as part of primary working team and my role is to help the primary worker and the associate worker in coming up with a treatment plan for our allocated patient. I regularly attend multi-disciplinary care review meetings where we decide and carry out present care needs, plans, and wishes and identify future input and support, goals and any desired future outcomes for our service users. I work with the other members of staff and outside agencies to promote empowerment, individuality, rights as enshrined by the law, personal responsibilities, self-identity and self-esteem. I work as part of a team including an occupational therapist that puts care plans and assessments into action to help people with basic life skills.

Case work is not only the basic practice in professional Social Work but rather, a common practice followed by all. The traditional definition defines case work as “a method of helping individuals through a one-on-on relationship’’. Every individual trained or untrained indulges in case work. The difference is made by theoretical understanding and professional ethics, practices involved in professional case work. Mary Richmond in 1915 explains casework as “the art of doing different things for and with different people by cooperating with them to achieve at one and the same time their own and society' betterment.” Social Case Work can also be defined as “an art in which knowledge of the science of human relations and skill in relationship are used to mobilize capacities in the individual and resources in the community appropriate for better adjustment between the client and all or any part of his total environment”.
