The novel You by Caroline Kepnes is a fictional work that details the romantic obsession of Joe Goldberg with Guinevere Beck. As far as Joe was concerned it was love at first sight, but in reality, it is, Joe’s ability to manipulate and create a fictitious character that Beck eventually becomes enamored with. Joe utilizes Beck’s social vulnerabilities to gain insight into her personal life, hacking into her email and social media accounts, Joe ends up controlling, manipulating and eventually killing Beck and some of her closest friends. While reading this book it is very easy to get caught up in the predatory nature of how Joe chases Beck, the influence gains and how he interacts with other people in her life.
