The hype for the Canelo vs GGG fight was heavy. When we heard that Canelo was up against GGG, my family quickly decided to invite relatives to our house for a viewing party. While watching the fight, I took a step back to ask myself something. I wondered if all 35 people in my house were so excited about seeing a fight between 2 amazing boxing players , or were they rooting for one boxer because he’s mexican? I realized that some people who were invited were not boxing fans but just showed up to have some fun. I remember hearing one of our guest saying “ I don’t know what’s going on but I go for Canelo”. Later on , I realized that everybody who showed up were rooting for Canelo. I thought to myself that maybe they were rooting for him because
I don’t condone fighting, but boxing is sport that can be a fun and adrenaline rushing. Canelo is an amazing fighter and is speculated to be the next and maybe the last greatest upcoming star that boxing has left. If you want to become a boxer, a strong one, that knows his way around his opponent, then why not pick the young talent that already has a future ahead of him? Saul has a great team and is represented by Golden Boy, another boxing legend. He has a team that helps him formulate a plan of attack, and that plan is attack. He’s smart and brutal, he’s rated as one of the best pound for pound fighters and look at his age! However, he was outgunned by boxing's, questionably, best fighter, Mayweather Jr. In Canelo’s case, he did receive respect from many but also lost credibility. He didn't show up to this match and really showed his weak spot. In order to be the best you have to beat the best, and granted he received his only lost, their will be a rematch and possibly the moment where he is crowned and becomes the next ri...
The culture in Mexico is very fond of soccer as it’s the country’s most popular sport, where males of all ages play anywhere they can and leaving the national team as cult heroes. Even though soccer is the main sport, following behind it is boxing, where Mexico has produced many world boxing champions as boxing remains popular among all socioeconomic ...
In the 1930s America was "the undisputed center of world boxing," its popularity was immense and this opened the doors to many including Hispanics and African- Americans. The popularity of boxing was seen in the film through the immense amount of crowds that would place bets on fighters and the groups of people that listened to it on the radio. This popularity is seen when James J. Braddock has his biggest fight and his wife goes to pray for him at the church, but the church is already full of people who are there to pray for him. The immensity of the popularity is seen clearly throughout the scene in the background. As the scenes of fights are filled to the brim with ...
The “John Carlos Story” is a book about the struggles of growing up black in America at a time when much of the nation was still segregated. John Carlos was a member of the “Olympic Project for Human Rights.” After winning the bronze medal, John Carlos and a friend and teammate, Tommy Smith, who won the gold medal, raised their fists in opposition of racial inequality and in unity of civil rights. This book shows examples of sociology in everyday life which can be explained through theories and concepts, which centers mainly on the event surrounding their win at the Olympic Games.
This can cause conflict not only to children’s lives but to the parents’ lives as well, causing divorce to happen just by how television or the being in the audience of a boxing match can change someone’s life completely. Many viewers are fans of the sport because of how unpredictable the winners turn out to be; for instance, in A Brief History of Boxing, it states that, “Interest in the sport was renewed by colorful fighters. Mike Tyson sparked that interest into the ‘80s” (Allen) demonstrating how someone like Mike Tyson could actually be known as the most well known professional boxer.
This article got me thinking. I had face situation in my life that because of my bad grammar I had let go of great opportunities. English is my second languish and I thought that as long as I knew the basic I would be ok in life. But as I got older I started seeing the pattern of negatives effects of my insecurity of grammar. My return to college open my eyes to a better potential in life just by continually a proper college education. When reading this article the wheels of my brain started spinning. The first image that pop in my head, was my children trying to mimic all the YouTubers online with their in style vocabulary. Then two little boys appear in my head, two little boys that I saw ones about 10 years ago for about 10mn. I have forgotten them, until
Dealing with the issue of sport and ethnology, three major factors come to mind; prejudice, racism, and discrimination. These factors span across gender, ethnic, racial, religious, and cultural groups. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss how these factors have played a part in the evolution of sport in our society. The first issue tackled in this paper will be racism in sports, followed by prejudice and discrimination.
I began my journey as a Talonette my freshman year with the sole purpose of my sister trying out. I made a last minute decision to tryout for the team the day of the audition meeting. It was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Once I found out I made the team I was so excited! I knew I would be making lots of friends and great memories.
With my growing experience in the modern day educational system, I have developed many deep opinions towards my education. The gripes that all students make about homework and tests are expected from a student like me, but obviously my list is ever-changing with the constant reforms towards a vast technological society. As computer’s roles rapidly grow in our society, our education system must also rapidly adapt to the changes. As a result, the integration of one-to-one technology here at Jefferson High School has only complicated my learning and fueled the fire to anxiety built by school. In addition to the technology upswing here at Jefferson High School, my classes have become solely about taking me to the next level in my life. The push
I had a very strong interest in what the future held for women in science, because I wanted women to be able to make multiple accomplishments like men did in the science category. Throughout the time of being alive I made a speech about how I wanted women to make a great impact with being in science for the future. I can only image what the future is like now for women, I suspect that women have many more jobs in multiple categories than before. However I do know that some of the friends I had were also making an impact on the world already, changing it and showing how it can be different. An tremendous amount of citizens probably would have disagreed with all the things that women wanted to have changed or do. Honestly I do hope that women
A typical morning for me when i was 15 was not only trying to get myself ready to walk a long distance to school, but to prepare my two little sisters for their school. I was only 11 years old when my dad left us(mom and siblings). Ever since my dad left us I had to face a lot of challenges knowing that since that moment my life had changed. When my dad left i ended up taking a lot of responsibly at a young age. I started working and wanted to help my mom. We got to a point where we became homeless and i missed a lot of school. When my dad left he took everything and the house my parents were paying was way too much for my mom to pay by herself because is was working in the fields picking fruits. When we were homeless we had to go back to mexico
The best journey of my life so far was when I traveled to Hawaii for the Hawaii baseball World Series in July 2014. The team I went with was from San Diego and not one person from that team knew me besides the coach, which was my girlfriends grandpa. My best friend Mikey Alvarez and I had been chosen to play for the team and when I found out I was playing in Hawaii I was so excited I started to yell “Hawaii here we come,’’ with an extreme amount of excitement. Two weeks before my family and friends family went to Hawaii, we left to San Diego to meet up with the team. We left at the crack of dawn so that we would get there midday and it was very hot, especially because it was so packed in the car. Luckily I had nice ice cold refreshments to
I am writing this sentence at 1:37 in the morning. I’m not anxious because I procrastinated (Okay, I’m a little anxious because I procrastinated), but because I didn’t know what I should have written about. Going back and forth in my head all night wondering which will be the right answer to an open ended question. I could have done any number of topics, but there’s always downsides. Is this too serious, too shallow, too immature? Those were all questions I asked myself while thinking about my topic, all the while wondering what everyone else will think about me. At this point, the only thing letting me write this right now is sheer exhaustion. The wonders it has on the human psyche.
After photographing the World Superfight Championship, I was standing by the ring as the arena emptied, when a middle-aged local man emerged from the crowd. Threading his way through the foot traffic, he walked up to one of the fighters signing autographs and apparently asked a question. The fighter glanced up, shook his head no, and then turned away. The man shrugged and moved on. He went to another fighter, and yet another, obviously asking the same question and obviously getting the same negative response. He glanced over, saw several fighters in my vicinity, and came over. Curious, I edged closer. 'Hello,' he said to them. 'I'm Mario from the Mas Oyama Karate school. We're having a kids tournament tomorrow and I was wondering if you could come?'
Some call them tiger stripes, some call them battle scars. In actual fact they are medals symbolising the greatest battle I have ever faced against my own arch nemesis - myself. It was a battle wherein there was no obvious winner or loser, but I know that I came out victorious. It was easily the hardest fight of my life and it will stay that way forever. The constant uncertainty of whether or not you will actually make it through the day is terrifying, but once I was reminded what I was fighting for - my freedom, safety, and life - I knew that surrendering wasn’t an option.
