The Two Methods of Camping and Which Is Better There are two ways that families or individuals camp. One way is permanent camping, and the other is transient camping. Permanent camping is exactly as it sounds. A camper is placed on a purchased or borrowed lot at a campground and is left there year-round. Transient camping is when one takes a camper with them to a campground and then takes the camper back home after he or she is done. Not all campgrounds have the option of going permanent; in fact most campgrounds only allow transient camping. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but which is the best? I cannot begin to tell you just how excited we all are. I put in my request for the days off I need and am ready to start Packing!!! Not that I've never gone camping, because I practically lived in a tent for about three summers, but I have never gone camping as a mom before! Things are so very different in this stage of my life then they were before. Now I am aware that I am going to need diapers for my son, and clothes but the specifics were harder to plan for them then they are normally for just me. For me, my daughter who is four and potty trained, seems to be the lesser of the two evils so I decided to start with her. Knowing the way the weather tends to change along the great lakes I know she is going to need a full suit case! I grabbed two pair of comfy jeans, and three pair of shorts to start, a couple of tank tops, short sleeves and two sweaters! I grabbed a light sweater to keep the sun off her shoulders and a heavy one for the evenings around the fire pit! (Roasting Marshmallows is not as fun when you're cold! We are also planning on taking a trip to the lake, so I know she is going to need her suit and a towel and tennis shoes and sandals. With the main events up there including a once a year Flee Market and carnival (yes, in the middle of the woods!) I know she is going to desperately need lots of sun block, and bug spray. A Hair brush, tooth brush and lots of socks and undies, and some pull up's for bedtime and we're ready to hit the road. My little guy is a couple years younger than her and needs much more. The clothes will be packed the same way with the addition of diapers and wipes. He gets the biggest bag in the house even thought his clothes are the smallest! He gets two pair of shoes like Sissy, extra socks (on account of he likes to take them off and hide them!), little swimmers for the lake and his trunks. It was our fifth day in the Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico, the halfway point of the trek. I as the Crew Leader was responsible for the other 11 members of the crew, including 4 adults. I was in charge, and amazingly the adults rarely tried to take over, although they would strongly advise me what to do in some situations. Phil, with the exception of me, the oldest scout and the Chaplain for the trip, was my second. Together we dealt with problems of making sure everyone carried the right amount of stuff in their pack to who had to cook and cleanup each day. The trip had gone well so far, no injuries, and the worst problem had been a faulty backpack. As I walked I thought about the upcoming campsite. Supposedly this one had running water from a solar powered pump—so had the last night’s site but the tank was too low to use for anything but cooking because the of how cloudy it had been of late. But today was bright and shinny, and hot, so I didn’t think there would be a problem.

I packed a thermos of hot coffee, a chunk of summer sausage, some crackers and a small bottle of hot sauce and water. These items have been a tradition of mine for many years now and are a nice treat during the middle of the day when the squirrels usually take a break and I've been known to doze off leaning against a giant oak high on a ridge top. The best thing that I did when I was in Catalina is the Snorkeling. It was so much fun and I hope to be able to do it again sometime. They offer great wetsuits that keep you warm, and they have all of the gear you need for the snorkel. While we were snorkeling we had a guide to point out all of the cool stuff. During the snorkel we saw Gerabaldis, Sheepheads, Senoritas, Opal Eyes, and more. Then we saw a kelp forest and all of the cool seaweed. She doesn't really care for camping; she'd rather be at home watching TV. She goes because my dad likes to once in a while. I, on the other hand, love to camp and adore being out in the nature.

When life is perfect there is this feeling of overwhelming smiles. Like I want to scream or yell just because my life is so incredibly perfect. I felt this way the summer of 2002 at Lutherdale Bible Camp. But what is weird is that I don't know what makes it so perfect. Like what is the real difference from here to there? There I have this feeling of being so incredibly close to everything. As opposed to being to being in the real world, hearing and seeing what really goes on. When I was at camp I feel like I am really special. Like people wanted me to be there, and want to get to know me and just want to be around me. Of course I have plenty of friends and family at my house, but the people there are somewhat different. They make it seem like I am important.
