Hey everyone, I’ll be covering the firm’s competitors and market position.
Companies can improve their market position through price competition, product improvements, product innovation, increased or targeted distribution, or by influencing consumer perceptions through advertising and marketing.
However, as Metro Trains Melbourne has no ‘train’ service competitors, it is the market leader. It does, however, have multiple competitors providing alternative means of transport or new innovative ideas regarding train modifications.
A competitor can be as simple as walking or even riding a bike.

Innovative companies providing train railways with advanced technology. This involves Japan’s new ‘Maglev’ train. The train travels up to speeds of 603 km/h providing much faster transportation to that of the current Metro train in Melbourne.
Connex – Connex, wholly owned subsidiary of Veolia Environment, initially had a franchise from the State Government of Victoria to operate all suburban passenger rail services in Melbourne. The contract to operate the rail services was finalised in November 2009 where they were replaced by Metro, however, they are still a major competitor to Metro trains
