This month, Bronte Creek is filled with excitement as it hosts its annual Maple Syrup Festival. The festival is open to the public from 9:30am to 3:00pm every weekend in March and also includes March Break. Families are visiting the park to enjoy it’s many activities, such as, a guided tour of Maple Lane, exciting games at the kids activity center, the Maple Gift Shop and so much more. The festival is included in the $17.00 daily parking access fee. It’s recommended to budget some money if you plan on making purchases from the candy shanty, gift shop, and the maple taffy station. Besides the taffy station, which only takes cash, debit or cash is accepted in all areas of the festival. The Pancake House is where everyone can enjoy fresh pancakes and sausage meals, which vary from $4 for a small to $30.00 for a family meal. They have also expanded by installing a new continuous evaporator so that visitors can see how maple syrup is made in today’s society and try a sample of fresh maple syrup. The tour guides are easy to distinguish, as the festival specializes in the Late Victorian Time period (1890’s). When asking why families should visit, Hope Freeman, a first year tour guide says that “Its important for kids to come out to events like this because it teaches them about Canadian Heritage but its also important for families to spend time in nature”. The Maple Lane is a great place to start, as the tour guides inform, and share the history of maple syrup as part of Canadian traditions. The tour guides demonstrate how using different methods like the three kettles and flat pan method produced maple syrup.
