Education can be drastically different as seen in divergent societies throughout time or even throughout the world today. The ideal education seen today in 2015 and in Brave New World by Aldous Huxley are remarkably dissimilar. Every person is educated in some way, and this education completely determines ones’ thoughts and opinions. If not educated properly, a person is unable to have an informed opinion; and therefore these people are incapable of solving important problems in society. Everyone, without exception, is educated. Education is defined as the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university. In Brave New World, ones’ job is predetermined months before they can even breathe. Mr. Foster stated, “We also predestine and condition. We decant out babies as socialized human beings, as Alphas or Epsilons, as future sewage workers or future…” (Huxley 13). The hypnopaedia also is a large contributing factor to the mindset of these individuals. They are taught exactly what to say based on their gender, caste, and occupation. For example, Bernard thinks differently than the others because there was an issue before he was decanted, and therefore he was physically different than the others in his caste. Therefore, he thought differently than the others because there was a contreptemp in the conformity that is their society. He has been informally taught that he is an outsider through the disrespect that he receives and the lack of attention that he obtains from women. Therefore, he thinks differently than others in his society. In today’s society there isn’t much conformity throughout the world, therefore everyone thinks differently. This is from receiving a variety of educations; which this is why everyone has different views from one another. Views are not necessarily right or wrong, but they can definitely lean more towards one side. These people are capable of solving strenuous issues in a given place. Therefore, someone who is educated is more likely to be capable of solving difficult problem than those who are not. In the novel, the people are taught to laugh at gruesome things and to repeat others; this is why they laugh at the brutal murder of Lenina and begin to beat each other when they see this happening before them. These people were not educated correctly and this caused disgusting behavior. The citizens were educated on one viewpoint of a matter and were manipulated through constant conditioning. Because of this incorrect education, the people were unable to make versed decisions and therefore will never be given the chance to better their society. Educated people make educated decisions. Unlike Brave New World society, people in our modern day world have to work in order to have a job in which they enjoy. Education is usually the most prominent factor in deciding if one will acquire a desired job. One article stated, “The gaps in the employment rates of males with a bachelor's degree and those without a college education have grown since 1971. In that year, 93 percent of males ages 25-34 with a bachelor's degree or more were employed, while the employment rate for high school dropouts was 88 percent, a difference of 5 percentage points” (Overview of the Condition of Education).
