The Book Thief The novel, “The Book Thief” written by Markus Zusak, is a sad love story. It dates back to the late 1930s to 1940s in Germany during World War II. The story contains a young boy and a girl who meet on the street. He noticed her first on the street, it was love at first sight for Rudy. Over time a special bond is formed, but their time to live is limited. The sirens went off often and all of the families in town were rushing to the bomb shelters. However, their love soon comes to an end when their town gets bombed, with no warning. A very detailed plot and strong character development lead to the novel being preferred over the movie. The plot, characters, and major parts in the book were all superior in the book than in the movie. …show more content…
This makes the novel more in-depth than the movie. Erik Vandenburg was in WWI with Hans, which is why he became close friends. Eventually, their bond was so close that he even saved Hans’ life during the war. Hans then said he would do anything to give back to Erik’s family and kept his promise. The sergeant was looking for a person who could do a lot of writing. Erik Vandenburg said that Hans could do a good writing job, so Hans didn’t have to go into battle. “All that was left of Erik Vandenburg was a few personal items and the fingerprinted accordion. Hans Huberman, who happened to be the only man to survive. For that he had Erik Vandenburg to thank.” (Pg 176) Because the novel includes the Erik Vandenburg character, the reader can grasp the subtle nuances of the idea of their friendship and war. On the other hand, Tommy Muller was one of Rudy and Liesel’s friends. Tommy goes along to Hitler Youth with Rudy and Liesel. At Hitler Youth, the children are taught to burn books. (Percival 01:22:09-01:28:13) However, Liesel loves books and gets herself into mischief by stealing books. Tommy had a bad hearing condition and was known as the worst soccer player on their
The Book Thief Essay Mark Zusak’s novel, The Book Thief, is better than the film, as it dives deeper into the various perspectives and personalities of the characters. It builds up the character of Max, and the minor characters (such as the Holtzapfel family) build up the story. By reading this story, you learn about the themes of mortality and the power of words which aren’t as present in the film. Max, in the film, appears to be nothing more than another helpless and weak Jew. He is in hiding
The Book thief tells the story of a young German girl named Liesel. Liesel sees her brother die in front of her and end up getting adopted by Hans and Rosa Hubermann. While struggling to deal with the lost of her brother, the reality of Nazi Germany and trying to hide a jewish man in her basement, she finds comfort in stealing books and sharing them with others. The Book Thief book by Markus Zusak is better than the Book Thief movie directed by Brian Percival. The narrative character poorly uses
The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, is the story of a young girl named Liesel Meminger whose brother had recently died on a train and then obtains a grave diggers handbook while at the burial of her brother. Soon after the burial, she is taken to meet her new foster family, Hans (Papa) and Rosa (Mama) Hubermann, who reside in the German town of Molching during the Second World War. Here she befriends a boy named Rudy whose hair is the color of lemons, steals a book or two, learns the power words,
The Book Thief is a novel and a film that takes place in Germany. The majority of the story is based through the years of 1939-1943. In the book, the main character, Liesel Meminger, is a 9 year old girl with her foster family the hubermanns. After seeing the hit book blow up, they decided to make a movie. The Movie and the book, even though having their similarities, weren't exactly hand on hand in everything. . Some of these differences are minor, some being major. The Movie and the book were
The lightning Bolt The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Percy Jackson is on a quest to find the Lightning Bolt in order to get his mom back. In my opinion the movie is better than the book and novel. In the movie the characters are better looking and are more interesting to watch because they are outgoing and goofy. Also there is better effects which intrigues me because it has action and looks realistic. It’s entertaining because it seems like they are in a mission on finding treasure but for them
Comparison of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Book Vs. Movie For this paper, I chose the Roald Dahl modern fantasy book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Dahl’s books are mostly fantasy and full of imagination. They are always a little cruel, but never without humor - a thrilling mixture of the grotesque and comic. A frequent motif is that people are not what they appear to be. Dahl's works for children are usually told
Romeo and Juliet - Movie vs. Book Often times people say that William Shakespeare was and still is a legend. They are correct. It is amazing how Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet written centuries ago can be better than Franco Zefferelli's movie production of Romeo and Juliet, which had much better technology to work with only decades ago. Although the movie appeared better, it left out some major parts. The play had better mood and plot details which made it much more dramatic
Little Women - Movie vs. Book According to the Internet Movie Database's exhaustive records, Louisa May Alcott's novel "Little Women" has seen itself recreated in four TV series, four made for TV movies and five feature length movies since 1918. The most recent version appeared in 1994 and features Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst, Samantha Mathis, Eric Stoltz, Susan Sarandon, and Gabriel Byrne. As a long time fan of the novel, who has happily carted her large leather bound gold-gilded
The Secret Garden: Book vs. Movie The Secret Garden is a film based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's book bearing the same title. This movie is about a young girl who is literally shipped off to her uncle's English castle after her parents are killed in an earthquake. The main character, Mary, is played by Kate Maberly. She is tossed into a world where sunlight and cheerful discourse seem as rare as the attention she receives from the sour-pussed housekeeper Medlock, played by
with the Vampire - Book vs. Movie I cannot speak for all, but I find watching the movie much more interesting than reading the book. I find that the movie paints a perfect picture well on the other hand reading the book you have to let your imagination take over and create images in your head of what might the scene look like. “Interview with the Vampire” was a well-written book and a well developed movie after reading the book and the watching the movie I found the movie much more entertaining
Good Screen Production? Directors have been turning books into movies for many years. Fans love seeing their favorite books become screen productions. Often the movie is a complete failure that barely resembles the books and causes an upset among fans and book authors. However, once every few disappointments there lies a good film that does the book justice. A film that satisfies the fans and the author. “Percy Jackson the lightning thief” is a story about a young boy who tells a story about being
How Percy Jackson and Portal explore similar themes to make the protagonist more relatable Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is a novel written by Rick Riordan published in 2004, and was adapted into a movie, released in 2010. hearing the old woman explain that her stealing to survive is not wrongful, especially from a corpse who, in life, was a thief herself, the servant rationalizes that theft is a normality and necessity of life. With that, the servant steals the old woman’s kimono and says, “Then I guess you won’t blame me for turning highwayman, will you? I, too, must starve else.”
Troy vs. The Iliad Over the thousands of years that the epic story the Iliad has survived, there has no doubt been some form of alteration to Homer’s original. Last May, Wolfgang Petersen directed a movie based on the Iliad. This movie, Troy, has proven to be a very loose adaptation of Homer’s original, as are almost all stories that are made into movies, unfortunately. With its timeless storyline, amazing scenery, gorgeous actors/actresses and most of all, its reported two hundred million dollar
