CONSERVATION POLICIES The Boca Raton Museum of Art and its mission requires the proper care of its collection. The museum will adhere to the highest standards of conservation towards its collections. A safe and appropriate environment is created in the building to preserve our collections for many generations to come. The purpose of the Conservation Policy to ensure that the Boca Raton Museum of Art fulfills it’s to duties to care and preserve collections and items on loan.
Insurance
The museum carries a blanket fine arts insurance policy to cover its collections. Borrowers will pay a pro-rated amount for each item out on loan, unless there is a reciprocal loan in place. The museum’s insurance policy does not apply to unsolicited items, abandoned items, or staff’s personal collection. Every three years, the museum Board of Directors and the Collections Management team will review the insurance policy to ensure the best coverage is obtained for collections and for borrowed items.

The collections department has established an environmental management program to minimize the risks and damage from environmental and biological conditions. The environmental management program encompasses all temperature settings, humidity controls, pest control, mold mitigation, and lighting controls. The Boca Raton Museum of Art provides climate controlled storage for safe object storage. The area is dusted and vacuumed on a weekly basis. Temperature and humidity levels are closely monitored. All requirements are met regarding security, light, and temperature. Research is conducted to provide the optimal conditions for all objects. The collections team ensures that the latest technologies and conservation techniques are employed to protect all objects. Additionally, the area is monitored with regular pest control service. The play “Permanent Collection” focuses on an African-American man who has just taken over an art museum named Sterling North. While digging through storage, he finds eight African sculpture pieces and wants to add them to the collection at the Morris Foundation on the campus of a college. The Director of Education Paul Barrow is hanging on to the words of Mr. Morris and his vision because he doesn’t want anything to change at the museum according to Mr. Morris’ will, which contributes to the title of the play “Permanent Collection.”
The Tampa Museum of Art was not always the same museum that we see today. It went through multiple stages throughout the years. The works vary, creating a large spectrum from the old to the new. The social angles change with the exhibits in the museum, combining to create the diversity we see today. Visiting this museum in person helped me to appreciate it even more than I would have thought possible. Observing and analyzing the other visitors helped me to understand the museum’s impact on the community more than I would have been able to just by reading about it. This museum is much different from others than I have visited.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art came about as an idea from Jon Jay in Paris, France in 1866 with the idea of “national institution gallery of art” within the United States. Once this idea was proposed, it was immediately moved forward with his return to the United States. With the help of the Union League Club in NY they began to acquire civic leaders, businessmen, artists, and collectors who aided in the creation of the museum. For over 140 years, the visitors who go here have received everything the mission of the institution states.
To collect is to bring things together. However there is an art to collecting, as it is not simply just bringing miscellaneous things together. There is a common theme for the objects and together they serve as a special meaning to their collector. In both texts “The Museum and the Public” by Stephen Weil and Walter Benjamin “Unpacking My Library” by Walter Benjamin, and in the film “Mardi Gras: Made in China”, the purpose of collecting is to tell a story and to showcase the significance of the objects in the collection.
Items displayed in museums hold historical significance and are representative of society’s culture. Preserving valuable collections for education and enjoyment is a primary role of museums. While fulfilling this role, the architecture of the museum is also an important factor. Historical buildings are converted into museums and architects must consider the use of the space and the museum’s purpose during their initial design. Other museums are built with a clear purpose in mind. As museums are designed, many characteristics are determined. Display and storage spaces as well as visitor services impacts museum’s functionality. Based on the function of a museum, architectural requirements are different.
One pleasant afternoon, my classmates and I decided to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to begin on our museum assignment in world literature class. According to Houston Museum of Fine Art’s staff, MFAH considers as one of the largest museums in the nation and it contains many variety forms of art with more than several thousand years of unique history. Also, I have never been in a museum in a very long time especially as big as MFAH, and my experience about the museum was unique and pleasant. A very important factor in the market is the price mechanism: affects both demand (people will want to take advantage of the merit goods – the museums), and supply (depending on the entrance fee or free admission, some museums could last longer or not at all on the market.) The public is easily attracted by incentives such as discounts for students and children and free admission for elders and the disabled. Incentives generate more visitor numbers. However, current demand for tickets is low compared to the optimum quantity, although the museums’ heritage and their tradition are considered to be of great value. The shortage in demand is mainly due to lower-class citizens’ incomes.

One of my favorite things to do when traveling in a new city is to visit the museums. I
