On 02/02/16 is when I parked my truck in the Blatt parking lot. I would like to start by saying that I paid $100 for a parking pass to park my car. Only to find out that the Blatt PE Center parking lot would be full of people parking for free (with not tickets being issued). Every weekday evening until late at night swimming practice is help at blatt. Along with that comes tons and tons of parents and high school students who need to park their cars. So they all park in the Blatt PE lot. They fill the lot up everyday and even line the rows waiting for students to walk up so they can follow them to their cars and take their spots. There parents and high schoolers are parking in the spots that I have paid to park and they pay nothing. Something
The two essays’ “Usl at the Stadium” by Rivka Galchen and “From is Shaming Necessary?” by Jennifer Jacquet express that society should not shame individuals if it is something that is not sever. Because the shamers’ tend to shame others because they feel like there is no other alternative or way for people to see or understand them. Shaming others can put them in dark spot that can be hard for them to get out of. If shaming is to be used as a punishment then it should be used for serious problems like drunk driving and criminal offenses.
In the novel Grand Avenue. Greg Sarris uses the theme thread of poison to connect all of his separate stories about the Toms’, a Pomo Indian family. He proves that the roots of a family are the basis which gives the family its structure, even if those roots are bad. In the Toms’ family they’re roots were poisoned from the very founding of the family starting with Sam Toms’. His poison was not the fact that he tried to steal a married woman away, but that he was filled with secrets, deceptions, and self hatred. His family was founded on these poisened roots and passes the poisen down generation after gerneration. The only way to stop the poison, or inner self hatred taken out in other forms, was to let go of past and talk about the secrets and lies. Once a person does this they are able to learn from their mistake , in a sense the break free from the poison. If Sam Toms’ , the founder or root of the family,would have broken free of his poisen by talking about his mistake he made, his whole family per haps would have turned out completely different. As a result of his secrets and lies his family was rasied to make the same immoral desisions as he made throughout his life. His family, like Sam, didn't take responcilblity for their mistakes, which spread the poison onto the next generation. Tracing the poison throughout the Tom’s beginning at the roots, shows just how important the roots indeed are.
It all begins with SOS and SOS+. Those are the freshman orientations. Every freshman has been through it and knows what I am talking about. Many of the SOS and SOS+ leaders told the freshman during orientation that nobody goes to the football games instead, they go to the basketball games. As a freshman you want to do everything that you can to fit into the crowd. Of course if an older student tells you that it is not "cool" to go to a football game, then most likely you are not going to go. Freshman Lucy O'Kelley says, "I was scared to go to the football games after my SOS+ leader told me that nobody went to them. I thought I would be they only one sitting in the stands, so I did not attend the games this past season." If most of the freshman felt that way then that was about 900 possible fans that the SOS and SOS+ leaders scared away. They are supposed to be leaders of the university, but yet they are scaring the fans away.
These few examples of favoritism are enough to show that this inconsistent treatment is wrong. According to any College or University this does not happen but just look at any athletic program and talk to the athletes.
The article, “The shame of the NCAA” by Dave Zirin and the essay written by Tim Ajmani, “Compensation for college students?”, have many similarities. Dave Zirin states, “The coaches own the athletes’ feet, the colleges own the athletes’ bodies, and the supervisors retain the large reward (Zirin 205)”, and in the piece written by Tim Ajmani, “they reap the benefits of the athletes competing in their sports(Ajmani 209)”. They both get at the same point but in different ways, student athletes are being owned by these colleges and the NCAA is getting paid for the hard work and skills that are shown on the court. Both writers suggested that students should get paid so they could finish school and not be a one and done.
The athletes at these institutions bring in tons of money into their school every year and deserve compensation. These Universities are exploiting these athletes by not giving them back what they make for their school. The numbers say it all when it comes to the scamming of the athletes by their own schools. In 2004, over 40 schools brought in more than $10 million, with 10 of them bringing in over $30 million. Several athletes around the nation are worth more than $1 million to their school(Brown). Both of these statistics are proof that while these athletes are essential to their schools, they are still kept out of the revenue. Even though these Universities won’t pay their players, the schools still have no problem giving their coaches some money. In 40 U.S. states the head coach of the basketball or football program is the highest paid public official(Edelman). Over the past 20 years, there has been a major increase in the popularity of college athletes. From 1989 to 2004 there was a 27% increase in ticket revenue(Brown)...

The Rogers Centre, originally named SkyDome, is located in downtown Toronto near Lake Ontario. Situated at the base of the CN Tower, the visually captivating dome stands 31 stories tall and covers 11.5 acres. (CITE 1) Aside from its physical dominance, the dome is an architecturally interesting and significant structure because it was the world’s first stadium with a fully retractable roof. Furthermore, the multi-purpose building is very important to the city of Toronto because the venue has accommodated over 50 million people attending thousands of events since it opened just less than 25 years ago in June of 1989.
Abstract: The Stadium construction boom continues, and taxpayers are being forced to pay for new high tech stadiums they don’t want. These new stadiums create only part-time jobs. Stadiums bring money in exclusively for professional leagues and not the communities. The teams are turning public money into private profit. Professional leagues are becoming extremely wealthy at the taxpayers expense. The publicly-funded stadium obsession must be put to a stop before athletes and coaches become even greedier. New stadiums being built hurt public schools, and send a message to children that leisure activities are more important than basic education. Public money needs to be used to for more important services that would benefit the local economy. Stadiums do not help the economy or save struggling towns. There are no net benefits from single purpose stadiums, and therefore the stadium obsessions must be put to a stop.

This is why Algonquin is also known as a canoeist's and camper's paradise as far as the eye can see.
Garbage is floating in the lake. It is heartbreaking to see what has happened to the park. It used to be so nice. If something isn’t done, no one will want to go there anymore. I feel that cleaning up City Park should be a top priority for our community. One reason I feel this way is that my dad says that City Park used to be beautiful. When he was growing up, his family spent every weekend in the park. People would swim, fish, and have picnics. Everyone loved to go there. I wish it were like that today…but now, the park is a dump! Children my age don’t want to play there because there is so much garbage in the water and on the grass. I also think that the baseball fields are dangerous. I know this because I am on a team. The grass is really high. One player on my team actually cut his knew. He tripped on a weed while he was trying to catch a ball in the outfield. We lost the game and he couldn’t play for two whole weeks. My dad told me, “If they don’t fix those fields, you’re not playing baseball anymore.” He is not the only parent who is upset. During the 1800’s Great Britain’s empire stretched around the world, and with raw materials easily available to them this way, they inevitably began refining and manufacturing all stages of many new machines and other goods, distributing locally and globally. However, despite being the central ‘workshop of the world,’ Britain was not producing the highest quality of merchandise. When comparing factory-made products made in England to surrounding countries, most notably France, those products could not compare as far as craftsmanship and sometimes, simply innovation. It was suggested by Prince Albert that England host a sort of free-for-all technological exposition to bring in outside crafts into the country and also show their national pride.
There needs to be additional parking on campus made for those visiting the campus and also for students, faculty already has reserved parking; however the limited amount of parking on campus is forcing students and visitors to reserved faculty lots. Our school is limited in funding for certain projects such adding additional parking to solve the parking problem on campus. The student body should take responsibility for the raising of these funds to build additional parking on campus. The rising sophomore class should organize fund raising events to build additional parking on campus.
